After the 2013 death of D. Reed, WR, EMU football, this morning tragedy struck EMU again: one of our starting EMU women's basketball players, Shannise Heady, was killed in an automobile accident.

I watched her play 20 hours ago during the televised EMU/Toledo game which was webcasted on ESPN3 and telecast on ESPN's FullCourt package.

It emotional stings to have watched someone play yesterday and know she is dead today.

I am so sorry to hear that. I was at the game. Simply tragic. My prayers to the family and the team/Eagle fans. Always a shock when someone dies so young.
This is a real shock and tragedy. Yesterday afternoon she and her teammates were in Savage celebrating their big win in the game that just ended and nine short hours later she departed this life forever----way, way too soon.

Condolences to all the family and friends of both her and her friend, a passenger in the car, who was also killed.

It is tragedies such as this that reminds us just how tentative and how fragile life really is; however, it is probably well that we don't normally dwell on this or we might be so paralyzed by fear and caution that we would not take any of the chances that make life worth living.

There are interesting comments at the bottom of this article.

It is too early to know, but it is possible that the road has been subject to other fatalities in recent years. The accident happened after midnight.

My condolences to the athlete and other student as well. Breaks my heart to read this, their parents send them to us to better their lives through education. The last thing one thinks of is a tragedy occurring while away at school. I hope the MAC makes a gesture on her behalf this season.

Very sorry to hear that. You just never know when it might be your time. My condolences to the family and friends. Very sad.

Nothing to say but i'm sure that family, team, school, and community will come together and support each other.
The Eastern Michigan at Miami women's game for this Saturday has been postponed until Tuesday February 17 so that the team may attend the funeral.
Prayers to her family and EMU...

Excellent idea.

Here is the Eastern Echo (student newspaper) coverage, with meaningful photos, of Saturday's game with Buffalo.

I would suggest just looking at the photos, because the story is horribly written and edited.
