Yep!!!!! that's why I made sure to point that out.........
The signing day affair began in the very last years of the Pinkel era. We used to have it on the first level of the Glass Bowl Press Box before it was moved to the Grogan Room and, ultimately into Savage Arena. The time was always 4:00 PM. Thanks for the update, Terry.

I never could get into BB. Can't figure out how they get that little black thing up in that orange ring with that fishing net on it.

Hadn't thought of that. 4:00 is too early for many people.

Basically they are charging 8 bucks to attend the recruiting presentation. Not sure they even do that in Columbus.

It's great that we won the GoDaddy, but we're not exactly the national champs...or the MAC champs...or even made it to the MACC. C'mon now...

I think they are doing before the game to try and get more people to the basketball game knowing there are fans who make a special effort to be there for the signings. 04-cheers

" Not sure they even do that in Columbus ". - I wouldn't be too sure about that !!! If they can find a way to siphon $$$ out of that nutjob fan base, the folks at o$u will certainly do it. I agree though, that a ticket to the b-ball game should not be required to go to the signing event.
Or maybe they are just trying to make it convienient. Come to UT once. People loitering around waiting for the game etc.

Its a 2 for 1 deal and I think a good idea. You can go to one or either or both and also a nice deal for folks that already have tickets so they dont have to pay more. These things cost money to put on and $8 dollars isnt a lot of money. It a nice way to get more people to both events and make it affordable for all. NIU is having their event at a wine bar and it costs $45 dollars per person. Unfortunately only people that can afford that attend and room is very limited so their event is sold out. Their event wont attract any or many students. I like our idea a lot better because we can literally have up to about 7,400 people attend which is the capacity of Savage Arena and it will attract fans of all types including students.

That's what I've done in the past. Hung out in the Grogan Room until game time....... No Brainer....
There should be free admittance for the signing ceremony - bottomline. I will be at the bball game as well but it seems that they could somehow close the entrance to Savage and have all the people only interested in the signing ceremony to enter off Douglas.

Go Rockets!!!!

I totally disagree as I think they have to think big picture on every single move. UT needs to find every way possible to bring in revenue for athletics while still making things a fair deal. We have to stay ahead of our peer MAC schools on revenue and we need to try and stop falling further behind the big schools. Every single penny counts. They have accomplished both here!
Well, we'll see how many are at the event to gage its effectiveness. If we didn't have a game that day then the event would be free. So now its pay if we have a game or free if no game???!!! I think we stay "no charge"

Easy enough to drop $8 on a Wendy's Combo Meal.
Well, it is free...if you buy a basketball ticket. If you don't buy a basketball ticket then you're not invited.

First it was free, with free snacks.

Then it was free, but you had to pay for snacks. (That's fine.)

Now it's free, but you have to pay for snacks and buy a basketball ticket?

I just think the linkage is weird and 8 bucks is too much to charge for the recruiting event. If they need to pay for the electricity why not charge $2-3 a head and hand out a sheet of paper with the recruiting class's names and a voucher toward a basketball ticket? That I could see.

Simple answer, if we don't find ways to bring in reveunue big and small we are in big trouble. Please just look at it as each persons small way of helping the cause. I am a donor and I dont ***** because I live out of state and can't attend anything unless I buy a plane ticket, get a rental car, a hotel etc. It would cost me hundreds of dollars to attend this event. it's been years since I made it up but I still wrote the check for larimar and the pavilion. Please people stop the crying over $8 dollars and just go with it. In fact give more if you can!
The more I think about it I guess $8 is really nothing. Any source of revenue stream (big or small) is good for the athletic department...
The signing day event may end up being streamed on line (FREE) with snacks being on the house... - YOUR HOUSE !!!
LOL. Yeah. Well, I wasn't planning to attend the EMU game, so I'll just watch the 10:00a streamed announcement and provide my own coffee and cereal. Oh, and for anyone not going to stay for the game, unless you are going to park in Old Orchard and walk over, there is this additional tidbit:

- Parking for Football Signing Day will work as per a normal basketball game. Lots 3, 4, 5, 10 and 18 are by pass only. All other lots are $5.

So, if you want to use a UT parking lot you're going to shell out $13, not eight. And, you're paying for a basketball event, so it doesn't help football anyway.
