If anybody is interested, a gretat Zydeco band from La., Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas, is at Jefferson Hall in Newport tonight at 9:00.
I have seen them twice before and they tear it up.

Only a $5.00 cover too.
Forget whom it was that I saw at Tall Stacks. There were a couple of zydeco acts. Impressive stuff nonetheless. This just might be worth checking out, though Jefferson Hall has lost its appeal since moving from Main Street. Seems more like a nightclub now.

Ziggy don't you like to do a little Clubin'? You will need you Clubin' Clothes.
Nathan was at Tall Stacks on Sunday afternoon, just before the great Charlie Musselwhite. After that was the Blind Boys and then Buddy Guy. What an afternoon of music.
shawn scott, for the record. Chaselounge is amazing.

they're a really good local band with a rock/indie/alternative feel to them. they've played all over the city; used to go by the name of "tv yellow" back in the day but they are now called chaselounge.

the lead singer is shawn scott.
I will try to check them out. Some local band opened up for Buckwheat Zydeco at Southgate House a few weeks ago and they were pretty good. Anybody know who it was?
Kind of edgey surf music mixed with a little grunge, then add one part Chris Izaak and one part Marshall Crenshaw and stir well.
I've always heard that if a band doesn't have a washboard player, it's not authentic Cajun. Beck, do these folks have a washboard?
Yes they do, but they play Zydeco, not Cajun. I like Cajun music (chanky-chank) a lot, but the black musicians view Cajun music as "white music" and take great offense to being labelled anything other than Creole or Zydeco music.
It was a really good show, and lots of trim there too. I am happily married but I check 'em all out.
No offense, ladies, ya'll do the same.
Tomorrow night at the Poison Room, Brett Dennon is playing with Tupelo Honey (not together I don't think). Never heard either, but I've heard if you dig some Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Dave Matthews, or Paul Simon, you'll like it. He's toured with Xavier Rudd (if you haven't heard, I suggest you do, he's excellent). I think all you have to pay is the cover.
Here's a name to toss out there....went and saw Dick Dale the other night at a very small venue.

Nothing quite like surf rock and cheap beer.

beck,
have you ever seen Robin Lacey & deZydeco perform? They are a local cincinnati based band that is fantastic.
I have seen Robin Lacey perform. I am heavily in to Louisana music, and they don't quite compare to that. I will say this; they work really hard, they have a good time and they quite obviously feel the passion for the music. That makes them okay in my book. Good party band.

Oleskl. Dick Dale?! Old surfers on acid. Wild ass American music.

Yeah we sat around shooting the crap with him after the show, really nice guy but you could tell he's done his fair share of acid over the years.

Did Oleskl say Dick Dale and the Del-Tones? Dick Dale changed my life.

I was a 15 year old midwest boy visiting my uncle and his family in Los Angeles in the summer of 1960. My cousin took me to a surfin' concert and Dick Dale was the headliner. He blew me away.

I spent the whole rest of the summer trying to get my mom to let me move out the Southern California so I could become a surfer. I lost and the dream faded.

My cousin lived the dream and became a damn good blond haired surfer and a better radio disc jockey. Died of a drug overdose 20 years ago. California will do that to you.
tell me what you think of this guy... he plays all around cincy too

the song "Miserlou" was burned into my head before I ever knew who Dick Davis was. partly due to his original and endless covers I heard growing up from bands like Agent Orange. fantastic stuff
