Interesting tweet from Ono.

The # & geographical distribution of stores selling UC merchandise has expanded in 10yrs #HottestCollegeinAmerica
Very nice to see. Refueled at a Pilot, off I-75 south of Toledo, and saw UC merchandise for sale. Told the clerks I was happy to see the UC gear. They indicated the merchandise sells, so they stock it.

Yeah, they are missing quite a few places in Toledo, whenever I head back there to visit family there's always a lot of UC stock in the sporting goods stores/sports memorabilia stores. Hell, I saw UC stuff on the racks in a Detroit Meijer a few days ago.
I posted this on another thread. Rally House manager at Rookwood told me UC is the leader among sales in all of its local locations. This includes their NKY location, which surprised me. Apparently, an admin from Eggs came over and was irritated they were relegated to the back corner of the store. The store acquiesced and moved them towards the front.

I see a lot of UC gear in Covington and Newport, folks walking down the street, Kroger, Gym etc.
Back around Thanksgiving I was in Champion, Ohio (near Youngstown, OH) and saw a guy wearing a UC pullover at a pizza joint. I gave him a "go bearcats" and he gave me the thumbs up.
I see lots of bearcats gear when I go to Hilton Head for vacation. I might be biased, but UC stuff is awesome looking.

HHI might as well be suburban Cincinnati as many Cincinnatians (myself included) vacation there.

Hilton Head is Ohio South. Its always been a popular destination for people in Columbus as well.
The whole "hottestcollegeinamerica" really bothers me. No, it's not. That would be Arizona State or another Pac-12 school with 10's frolicking around campus. 02-13-banana
Over Christmas, I took a trip that had me driving on I-90 east from Cleveland. Stopped at the Love's in Ohio just before entering PA and noticed shelves of college ball-caps that included Bearcats, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Penn State and others. The notable omission was Ohio State. That's right. There was not a single OSU cap on the shelves. I made sure I stopped there to gas up on the way back.

Gas is also a LOT cheaper in Ohio than PA or New York, so you should stop there for that reason as well.

Every place has its ups and downs.

Yet before Christmas, the downtown Cincinnati Macy's had O$U gear lining its most prominent walls at the 5th and Race entrance, while UC gear was relegated to less noticeable islands in lesser quantities. This really annoyed me, especially since I just left a UC game at Paul Brown. WTF? Bengals gear also took a prominent spot.

Macy's should hear about it from alumni, fans and UC licensed vendors. The game was three blocks south and Macy's world HQ a few blocks north. I compliment buyers or managers when possible and buy from stores that stock and prominently display our University's merchandise. It supports UC and builds the brand.

From my understanding, many times a chain like Macy's will get a discount on merchandise from a specific manufacturer if they promise to give prime locations for their merchandise in the store. This very well could have been the deal, where they got a discount on all of their OSU gear as long as all the Ohio stores put the gear in a display window. It could have been a Nike deal nationwide for all we know, and they have to put the biggest Nike school's apparel in a window for show thus UC gets screwed since it is an Adidas school.

Just sayin'....

Surprising somewhat. Not a ton of OSU running around Downtown. That Macy's sucks in that they have nothing close to a university shop in the 2nd floor mens area. I guess univ stuff is somewhere on the first floor?
Last month in Honolulu, I didn't see another person wearing UC gear. Most of the gear in Hawai'i (outside the Rainbow Warriors) were Oregon, 49ers/Seahawks and USC.
I went to Dick's in Mason during the Christmas shopping season. The clerk said the merchandiser made them have a prominent OSU display, but she said UC items were out selling OSU garbage 3:1.
Secret shopper tip for osu fans: come to Cincinnati for a full stock of size and style selections of Buckeye clothing...on the final markdown clearance racks.

On a serious note though, President Ono is wise to push information out there about UC's market reach to battle the misconception that UC only has a following inside I-275.
Once in a blue moon, I've found UC stuff all the way out here in Colorado at Foot Locker or Champs.
