I think you are right. Interestingly, its those schools that are no longer affordable to most prospective students (private schools like SMU) that are going to get hit hard by the bubble. That and paying large salaries for head coaches while not putting fans in the seats to pay for it.

What is the average pay out in the AAC? I believe CUSA is just below $3m, so I was thinking the AAC is close to $5m?
When you average it out, they make 300K per team more than we do. That being said, they also have a lot more travel involved compared to most of CUSA now that has become somewhat more regional.

I know that in talking with our leaders that our traveling expenses have come down quite a bit with the new additions to CUSA. I also think the new format for basketball scheduling has cut way back on traveling expenses in CUSA as well.

A lot of it has to do with scheduling and the fact Southern Miss moved west. As a result I would think that travel in CUSA west is shorter now than it was before. Consider the locations of UTSA, La Tech, North Texas....that fits in very well for schools like UTEP, Rice, Southern Miss etc. Also that fact that we no longer play three cross-division football games like we used to. With seven team divisions, we are only paying two cross division games now.

CUSA still is nowhere close to a bus league for Olympic sports.
Football travel is a different story because there is only one game a week and an over night stay is standard, even if there is a game at home. Bus range is easily 8-9 hours for football.
