That's good company. =]
I'm on my phone, so I'm not sure if I'm oveooking them. But where was Georgia Southern rated? If we have a B, they surely were rated higher. I don't see them at all.

A+
GSU with an A+, App. St. an A, and ODU with a B. I would think that last years class of move ups were the most successful ever.
I think App definitely deserves an A. They played one of the harder SBC schedules. GaSo on the other hand had one of the easiest SBC schedules.

I'm not pooping on what GaSo did at all because they had a very impressive season for a first year FBS team, but I think App St. deserves the higher grade despite having a worse record.

That Liberty loss was really a kick in the ass for App and they turned things around after that and finished the season really strong.
How many games/ wins against bowl teams did they (GaSo, App St) have. I know thats not the end all be all number but it shows how well you stack up against better competition. We played against 5 bowl teams (4 of those won their bowl games) beat 2 of them, played the other 2 close and lost to what was eventually the #23 team in the nation.

Good Point!

We played a much harder schedule then GSU or ASU

I believe we played 6 Bowl teams. 5 of those were winners

Old Dominion Beat 2 of the Bowl winners
NC State beat Central Florida 34-27
Utah State 21, UTEP 6
Marshall 52, Northern Illinois 23
Western Kentucky 49, Central Michigan 48
Rice 30, Fresno State 6
Louisiana Tech 35, Illinois 18

Geo Southern Lost to all the bowl winners
Bowling Green 33, South Alabama 28
Navy 17
, San Diego State 16
NC State beat Central Florida 34-27
No. 12 Georgia Tech 49, No. 7 Mississippi State 34
Toledo 63, Arkansas State 44

App State Only win against a bowl winner was ULL
Bowling Green 33, South Alabama 28
Louisiana-Lafayette 16, Nevada 3
Toledo 63, Arkansas State 44

Good Point!

I also forgot to include the game vs NCState that we played very well in. They also won their bowl game.
App State played 3 bowl teams (S. Alabama, Ark State, ULL who went 1-2 in bowl games) and beat 2 of them (Ark State and ULL).
GaSouthern played 3 bowl teams (NCState, GaTech, S. Alabama who went 2-1 in bowl games) and only beat S Alabama but played the other 2 really close.
They each played 3 bowl teams where we played 6 bowl teams (corrected for NC State). We definitely had the harder schedule.
GSU had a great season. No problem with their ranking. They deserve the A. I think App and ODU had comparable seasons. I would have thought both teams would be in the A- or B+ range. So basically, I think ODU was a little under rated and App a little over rated in this poll. Both squads did very well for move ups this season. Im sure there are several CUSA/AAC/SBC teams that would gladly trade their season for ours. If we had only won 4 games I still would have put ODU in the C+/B- range. There were only 3 games we "should have" won on the schedule at the beginning of the year.
I think a B is reasonable for this past season. We notched wins quick to start, fell in a hole, then clawed our way out to keep the streak alive. I can see why GSU got the respect; they played decent OOC teams close and then they steamrolled through Sun Belt play.
Just now getting around to reading the 12-15-14 issue of Sports Illustrated, on page 32 in a feature column called "Go Figure", ODU is mentioned as one of "6 FBS teams that were bowl-eligible but not chosen for a bowl game."
Random thought: What would happen if ODU and Georgia Southern played each others' schedules this past season? I presume ODU would do better than 6-6, but would they go unbeaten in the Sun Belt? I presume Real GSU would not go 9-3, but would they be competitive in CUSA?

If I had to guess, I'd say we might have gone 8-4. Same loss against NC State, big loss against GT, a slip-up loss to Texas State, and a not-completely-embarrassing loss to Navy.

I think GA Southern might have gone 6-6 with our schedule with a few differences. I feel like they could have beaten MT, and I feel like they would have lost to LT.

Toss-up, really. I don't know how well C-USA teams defend the option.
