Watts may have given us reason to hope with the establishment of a committee to hire a firm to "verify" the Carr Report numbers, but don't be fooled my Blazer brothers and sisters. This idea is right out of his PR firm's play book.

First it is attempt to make him seem more reasonable right before the NAS, SGA, and Faculty Senate no confidence votes. (It has already given the NAS leadership an excuse to put out their "we didn't have confidence in him yesterday, but we have confidence in him now" statement.)

Second, and most important, it is an attempt to buy time. They were counting on the uproar over cutting football to die down quickly; it didn't happen. Now they are hoping that during the next three months of relative inactivity the FreeUAB/Fire Ray Watts movement will finally run down, the unfavorable articles will slow to a dribble, and the students will tire of demonstrating.

In addition Watts installed Wes "all I have is my integrity" Smith to run the committee. I think that we can now understand why.

Keep in mind Watt's is a guy that doesn't intend to resign even if all three no confidence votes go against him. Do you think that even if the new study come out favorable to UAB football, he is going to simply going to do an about face, change his mind, and reinstate the program? Heck no! his intention is to stick by his guns and ride this thing out because he believes the BOT has his back. And why wouldn't he think so - he did exactly what they wanted him to do.

We cannot simply wait around to see what the new firm comes up on the Carr report and let the movement run out of steam. We absolutely must keep the pressure on any way we can! That is going to be hard.

The next objectives are to get no confidence votes out of the SGA and Faculty Senate. If they both vote no confidence and Watts does not resign (and he won't), then on campus demonstrations will begin anew with renewed vigor.

After the no confidence votes are in, regardless of how they turn out we then have to turn our attention to Montgomery and do everything we can to get the proposals of Jack Williams through the legislature. It can be done. Success in Montgomery is the only sure way to victory.

They think they can wait us out - but they can't. We fight! And then we fight some more.
Agreed. The committee is bull**** and just a kick the can down the road item to deflect criticism of him.

His head must be on a platter now.

See. There's a threat. You are advocating the beheading of President Watts.
(in blue for the dense people)
I do have anger issues at times.
The committee is just fine. I look forward to real numbers, accurate numbers, a report that considers all the things that were left out, glossed over, mis-stated, and lied about.

I also look forward to him catching a vote of no confidence right in the belly Thursday morning.
Yeah, even if it doesn't happen until we get our own Board of Trustees to cut this guy loose, it must be done ASAP! Fortunately that would NOT take a constitutional amendment as previously believed; just a plain ol' bill will do. I also believe that while the legislature is going around in March and April, we should be leveraging by holding meetings of our future BOT, to be installed as early as May or June (determined in the bill). Only then can we get the Interim President WE want (Carol Garrison) and reinstate football in time for Fall Camp in July!

FirsT WE need to win all the vote of no non confident
second watt need to stay despite the vote of no confident
third the story WILL go national (not espn but cnn )
I want Watts' head firmly on his neck. I want him to see football, bowling, & rifle reinstated and UAB to flourish under different leadership. That will be his burden to bear.

As Leonidas said to Ephialtes, "May you live forever."

They aren't generating a new report, are they? I thought it was to just review the Carr Report? Was I incorrect?
That is one of those gray areas. Where we may think they have been given a mission to generate a new report, it may be in turn a directive for them to find fault with the information only on the original report.

Still a kick the can proposal by Watts.
After attending this morning's faculty senate vote, I'm worried about the vote on Thursday.
Well my contacts voted no confidence. I can't speak for anyone else's contacts but I don't think the guy has a lot friends at this point due to the collateral damage that has occurred.
I think some are being persuaded to table the vote for another month.
You mean having their arms twisted?
Precisely.

What happens in a month? Nothing. The committee is going to hire a firm that will take 90 days. We are a ways off from seeing a resolutions.

What's more is this shows that Watts is apt to make fast, irrational decisions. It would be one thing had he been deliberate and talk to people ahead of time and then came to a decision we didn't like. It's a whole other thing to make such a sweeping decision essentially unilaterally and quickly. The longer he remains as president, the greater the liability to UAB overall.
& the more he feels empowered to do whatever he desires.
If they allow him to get up off the mat, he will squeeze every chance he gets until he's the one fully restored, not UAB or UAB Athletics.

"if you're running on fear, don't stop for gas!" #VoteNoConfidence

That's the second time I have read someone state that today. Where is that coming from? And what would happen to the medical school?
The saying goes something like this, "If you shoot at the king, you better not miss." Well, the Faculty Senate no confidence vote is the shot, they better hit what they are aiming at.
