Starting lineup did well. Devonte, Ben, Mariek, Roger and James W.
Josh was obviously being punished for the technical last game, but he came in the second half and played terrific. Team and coaches really needed this win. Now two straight road games. ULM and USA. We'll be able to tell how far we've come with these two games on the road.
Not home until we meet Troy on the 22nd. Hate that we're away from home so long.04-cheers
Couldn't be prouder of the way they bounced back. I can't figure how Roger Woods could shoot that many times and now draw more fouls than that, though. Maybe App St's players had been told to lay off him.

I agree: our best game of the year so far.
Steve decided he'd better win in front of new AD Chasse Conque tonight. Job on the line. If we had lost another tonight, the fat lady might just be singing her heart out, but the team really played well. Good win for everyone.
What I liked is that we have played good defense two games in a row.
Agree it was the Trojan's best played game I have seen this year. For sure it was Gus Leeper's best game in a long time.
I don't mean to belittle the Trojan's win. But to be honest, in my eyes, the Apps are the least talented opponent the Trojans have played at Stephens Center this year.

Maybe. But they score 95 points Thursday. We held them to less than half of that.

AppSt won at ASU, so we know we are better than 2 teams. Just need to be better than one more to make the tourney. And realistically we played ULL, USA, and Texas State even (2 overtime games and a 3 point loss). I'm not going to predict a win total, at this point, but we can play with anyone in the league.
16-4? 17-3 didn't work out.

3 pointer at the buzzer in double OT killed that. 10-6 finish gets us to .500. That may well get us a 6th seed, which would allow us to avoid GaSt and ULL, the first 2 games. That would be my goal at the moment.

See that's a problem. You have goals. Goals create expectations. I've always said if you have low expectations, you're never disappointed. That particularly holds true with UALR men's basketball.
I'm just trying to live in and enjoy the moment.04-cheers

I just try to keep goals realistic. I believed we would finish 3rd before the season. Maybe a high goal, but not unrealistic.. After starting 0-4, a goal of 6th place seems realistic. I might reset that goal higher, if we win a few games in a row.
Article on women's basketball and Joe Foley this morning corroborates what I've been saying for years. Even when your shooters aren't hitting, you encourage them to keep shooting. What if Alexious Dawn had stopped shooting when she missed her first five shots. That's what our men do. James Reid or Ben Dillard miss a few, and they crawl back into a hole and stop shooting. Alexious Dawn, at Joe Foley's urging, kept shooting and eventually scored 17 points in 12 minutes. That coaching my friends. You have shooters, you encourage them to shoot if they have a good shot. Don't let them stop shooting when they miss a few. Play tough defense and keep shooting. Now you have the formula. But obviously our men's team doesn't embrace that philosophy, which is one reason why we'll never have a really consistent winning team. Shooters should shoot, and others get the ball to the shooters, and have the coach identify the shooters for the non shooters. J.T. When you're in the game, you get the ball to the shooters and play defense. We don't need you to score. We've got plenty who are equipped to score. Play your role. And you win games.
