I have mixed thoughts on who should be starting. There are pros and cons. The offense typically runs better with Ethan at PG because he doesn't over dribble and he looks to pass first. This enables the rest of the team to get involved which translates to overall success for the remaining players. If Alvano could hit a few more outside shots, hands down he would be the starter.
On the flip side, Talley dribles, dribbles, dribbles too much. He is a score first PG which stagnates the offense and is exacerbated with his over dribbling. Defensively I think it is a toss up between the two. Alvano does a nice job staying in front of his man.
I would say Talley has a slight edge based on experience. Murphy brings Talley off the bench because he needs a scorer with Price off the bench. Unfortunately when Talley is playing with the starters, he has to replace his score first mentality with a pass first mentality. Against BSU he was looking to score while playing with the starters and it gets the offense out of synchronicity. Mike needs to flip the switch back to pass first while playing with Ward and Lee and we will be more efficient. I have given up on Murphy's offense looking for low post scoring options since we have never seen that be a focus.
