for the haters. You win, Steve won't be back. You can start partying now, if you can't wait until March. Kids played their hearts out. Glad you are enjoying this, but I feel for the kids and the coaches.
It's that we're not enjoying this that we want Steve gone.
You won't get a better person than Steve. There's a 50-50 chance you'll get a better coach when you roll the dice. Maybe a roll of he dice will be a good thing. We'll see.
It's just sad. I think even the ones who want Steve gone would have liked to have seen him leave for a better job, not because he didn't win enough. In addition to being a good coach, you have to have some luck. Especially in close games.
Only time he got lucky was the one in a million tournament win with Solo hitting the shot of the century, which probably saved his job that season.

You're right that we won't find a better person. If that won games he'd have a dynasty on his hands. I love Steve as a person. I really, really do. But our team is just too poor to warrant keeping him.

I have not said anything one way or the other about Coach Sheilds retaining his job. When Tits Peterson resigned in disgrace I got what I wanted. That said, I really don't understand how MJS can say in one post that Steve is universally liked by all Trojan fans as a person (this is indisputable), and in another post says that those who would like to see a change are "haters".
Chasse needs to work out a deal where Steve resigns gracefully now and turns the reins over to Joe for the remainder of the season while a national search for a new coach begins. Pay him until the expiration of this season's contract, and if he has anymore coming, work out a solution to pay him out over a period of time. Anything past this season's contract would be paid until he found another job. I don't know anyone who doesn't like Steve and want him to succeed, but after nearly twelve years to build a program, and we're sitting on the bottom of the league with poor fan support, it's time for a change, and it needs to be done now. Sadly, Chasse doesn't come on board until January 20, but maybe a deal could be struck even before then with the approval of Dr. Anderson. I have suggested this before, and the funny thing is my college age grandson came over last night and without having heard my proposals concerning this, made the same comment, except he said Steve should be fired and Joe take over. I do not want him fired. We owe him the courtesy of allowing him to resign with pay. He has represented us well over the years and deserves to go out with dignity. I hope Chasse and Dr. Anderson aren't just going to sit around and let this season play out without taking action.
It's been long enough.
It all goes to recruiting. He simply can't get enough of the players it takes to win. We have a few but we've recruited way to many D2 caliber players to win consistantly
One of the many things I remember after working 50plus years in the private sector. If you are not very good at your job, you better be a very nice, likeable person. It may be the only thing that allows you to stay.

Nothing will happen until the season is over. We could just as easily be 3-1, as 0-4. Not much a coach can do about missed free throws, lay-ups, and a 3 pointer at the buzzer. All this garbage on this board for years, even when Steve was winning. Removing a coach will take care of itself when he is losing. Steve has been mediocre to good, maybe not great. If this year continues as is, he will be gone. It's not that complicated. And it is not effected by a few fans on a message board.

No doubt why Steve has had a long run here. People will stretch the point for an A+ person. But don't give them an excuse to get rid of you while you are down.

My what a difference a couple of days makes. This time a day or so ago, you were getting ready to start a website, and now, there you go again, accusing anyone who isn't in Shields hip pocket, of being haters. I'll be the first to admit that losing that game last night, and being 0-4 doesn't bother me like it used to. A few years ago I would have been sick for two days after losing a game like that. Now, not nearly so much. I'm sick and tired of two people on this board deciding who the real fans are, and who they aren't. Forgot all about that Woo pig sooie huh? Maybe Shields called you and said he wouldn't ever do that again.

Yes, he seemed contrite and said it wouldn't happen again.

I also agree with you that the loss didn't bother me like it used to. I actually slept fine last night. Not sure exactly what that means. Maybe I'm becoming a more mature and emotionally healthy human being. Maybe I'm getting too used to losing. Not really sure, but I'm thinking it is a good thing. Now, if I could only learn to do that after a hog win...

I can't imagine how angry I would have been if I was there. But, I wasn't. I'm not sure what I would have done if I was there, because I wasn't. If you were there, I would have walked out with you. Not sure if I would have had the guts to do it myself, but I would have been angry at myself later for not having walked out. Although, I believe Dr. J, it is still just "hearsay" to me. I hear stuff everyday that I try to ignore and not let bother me. I know that doesn't make a ton of sense, but not having experienced it make it less "real" to me.
Ask RBL and Bob Denman to corroborate it. It is what it is. Or was. Is it earth shattering? Probably not to most people.
I just thought it was the wrong thing to do at that time. If you're at a Hog football or basketball game, it's the thing to do to call the Hogs. It's part of the fun. But when you're speaking, representing a particular university's basketball program in front of a Little Rock audience. probably not a good idea to encourage the group to do another program's yell. Especially a program that won't give you the time of day.

Only would have been earth-shaking if it was the ASU coach. Probably might have set off the New Madrid fault.
