VT isn't making a whole lot of money off of it.

http://www.dailypress.com/sports/teel-bl...-post.html

"The west side club seats represent approximately 2 percent of Lane Stadium’s 65,632 capacity, and the athletic department will net only 12 percent of beer and wine sales. Translation: This is not a financial game-changer, a way for Tech to pay for the ever-escalating costs of major college sports."

Scaling that for W&M would mean allowing ~245 people to buy alcohol. If those people spent $20 a game and W&M got the same 12% VT is getting that's an extra $588/game. The idea isn't to make money off alcohol sales, but to get people to buy the club seats.

Could make it a semi-public luxury suite area, with a buy-in similar to a season ticket/parking pass? Make it only available to season ticket buyers and extra $50/year for entry plus beer money?

Maybe but I don't know how many people would pay $50 for the right to buy beer during the game when season tickets run $120 max. I'm not opposed to the idea of beer at Zable but I don't think it's going to be a huge moneymaker.
It won't necessarily raise a lot of money on its own, but if it gets more butts in seats there's a trickle down financial effect, and it's a net positive. Enough people gripe about game day experience, this is something to add to that.
There will be alcoholic beverages in the new luxury boxes...but I would be stunned if we ever see beer sold to the general public in Zable.

I was thinking the beer would be free - which would guarantee a sell-out every game and require a much bigger stadium!!!

I believe it is against state law to sell alcohol to the general public at any state venue. Suites, boxes, and tents is a private party and catered so alcohol flows freely.

Now you're talking. Zable would become party animal headquarters. We could have a version of The Laker Girls. Showtime.

ODU has a beer garden in the end zone.

Again WM is very tailgate friendly, much more so than a lot of other schools in terms of being able to re-enter, so i really don't think Beer sales inside the stadium are necessary, most tailgate lots are a 5-10 minute walk tops to and from, so not sure why you would want to pay $8 for a beer in the stadium.

3 reasons:
A lot of people dont live very close and tailgating from a hotel is tough.
They dont necessarily have the appropriate vehicle.
They just may not want to put the effort in.

I dont get to go to many games, so it would be nice not to miss much action walking back and forth to the parking lot. I usually pre-game at the delis and then go.

A beer garden area with a view of the field would really be awesome for people like myself, for which I am sure there are many others. I might even decide to drink there before the game.

The QB club tailgate lot is literally 200 yds from the stadium, I am quite sure you can find some of us to hang with.

No offense to the % who come in for 1 or 2 games a year, but I don't think the school should have to put all the effort into a beer garden area, for a 10-15% return.

This could easily be settled with a question posed to the ODU boards...what is their opinion of alcohol sales/beer garden at their stadium? They also have tailgating right outside their stadium, but I recall the beer garden being quite full the game that I went to 2 years ago. Ours might be even more popular if you could actually see the game from it (theirs is ground floor, endzone).

Many, many, many alums know nothing of the QB club and the fact that there is any semi-public tailgating aside from the alumni house offerings. No offense to the QB Club, but I had been to a great many games before I ever heard of it. If not for these boards, I think I would still be unaware.
St Bede's lot is all qb club tailgating, drop in and ask for Sandy, he will hook you up with all the beer and donuts you want.
One of the interesting things about going to the HU game was they had a beer garden which was heavenly promoted over the PA and you could watch the game at the same time. Since they do not allow fans to re-enter at halftime it was a pretty popular area.
Nice job on the video.
Great video. Cool that when it's done there will be a bridge from the suite level to the Laycock center.

In his closing message Terry mentioned something about a big announcement at homecoming. Wonder what that is.

Unsure if this is from the suite level or if topped out now and the new press box. Hopefully the former.

I believe this is from the bottom of the upper deck.

It has to be, only the bottom actually has bleachers right now. Like there's maybe 4 or 5 rows of bleachers, then the rest is just a hollow structure.
