What do you think, any body want to get this started? Razor.... your not busy are you?
Any of those fundraising websites charge a percentage of the proceeds raised for their own profits. Maybe go through ODAF to avoid this? I'm sure they wouldn't object to a separate Howitzer fund.

Fantastic idea, however I agree with 007, it would be better not to use a site that siphons off a portion of the money raised or takes a percentage off the top. As much as we all love the howitzer and feel it is an integral part of our game day experience, I am not sure Old Dominion would advocate this as a cause to raise money under the umbrella of the ODAF. I am sure everyone would support the cause and donate and even actively promote, just not as a sanctioned ODAF Campaign. The primary purpose of the ODAF is to aid in the support of student athletes. To raise money for scholarships, endowments and to supplement the Athletic Departments financial requirements when the department is limited or because of budgetary restrictions to support staff (coaches / primarily salaries for facuilty) and infrastructure enhancements and to build new facilities. The overall goal is to support the athletic department to enhance the academic experience of the student athletes. But just like everyone else I hope we can get the howitzer back next year. I love it.

PS...I also think they are looking to launch several other fundraising Campaign(s) for projects or needs in the immediate future.
It may be that given the closer proximity to the neighborhood which our new stadium will have, ODU might not be that interested in the Howitzer right now. Perhaps that partially explains its disappearance. There is a lot of work to be done in terms of assuaging some of the local civic leagues and individuals regarding this plan which is the most important element to the future of ODU Football. There may well be some neighborhood people who wince and grow colder to ODU's plans with each blast of the cannon.
What about during the basketball games? 03-lmfao

We already have one of those....Richard Ross!
The new stadium location is no closer to neighborhoods than the current one. Its more quiet and less annoying than the jets at Oceana. I'd give money to the cannon fund. It would be awesome if they put a plaque or something on it with all the donors names.

Which brings up another great idea for the stadium. Sell engraved bricks with peoples names or sayings on them for a nice brick wall, paver walkway or stadium pillars. We need to keep the brick stuff anyway to match the rest of the campus, so make money off it. $250 gets a stadium brick with your name and a "go Monarchs" or "aim high" or whatever you want thats not offensive and within the character count. They'd probably make a half million bucks off of that alone at 2000 bricks sold. And talk about people feeling a connection to the team & school. Memorializing loved ones, putting your name in the place like that to be looked at every season, show your kids etc. would certainly add a sense of ownership to it. ODAF needs to get on this.
Awesome idea about the bricks! I'd buy one.

The new stadium may not be appreciably closer, but it is new. The major point I made still stands in that ODU is in sensitive discussions with neighbors over the new stadium. To ODU and it's football fans this stadium represents the future of somethimg that means very much to them. To the neighbors of the new stadium could represent one of many things. To some who are also ODU Football fans it will be a great addition, but to others it might well represent increased noise, increased traffic, and a threat to their property values. If yo don't think ODU is going to be very sensitive toward it's neighbors and their opinions regarding the new stadium I think you are mistaken.

I'm in favor of the stadium, I like the Howitzer, I wish we had the land, the money, and the demand to build a 60K seat stadium, but ODU is in a tough situation because the campus is land locked within a neighborhood setting. What is likely going on behind the scenes may not be easy, and it may call for some compromises, but I am confident that in the end we will have a great football stadium of which we will all be proud.

P.S. I love the brick idea.
GO MONARCHS!!!

That is an awesome idea. I think there had been some discussion about selling engraved name plates to put on the back of seats (not a reserved seat) just memorialized with your name for all time. I think they could and should do many options.

Revenue

5,000 Walkway Bricks - sold $100.00 each = $500,000.00
2,000 Brickwall Bricks - Sold $250.00 each = $500.000.00
1,000 Engraved Seat Plates - Sold $1,000.00 = $1,000,000.00
Total .........................................................$2,000,000.00
LOVE the brick idea.
I'm much more in favor of a Norfolk Southern Train Whistle for FBall AND BBall.
Or - a Tug Boat Horn.
Fits the area nicely.
Why not a Norfolk southern train whistle AND a tug boat horn.

Just deafen everyone in the stadium every time we score.

Tugboat whistle. Awesome!!!
Bring back the Howitzer period! The Howitzer is tradition. Plus....we need flyovers to return as well. Saw several bowl games where they had flyovers.
The brick idea has always been a favorite of mine. I'd totally buy a handful of them as presents for family with their names on it.
I've heard the brick thing is in the works and that an honorary brick will be assigned to Marquel De Lancey!

I heard the mayor of Toronto will be donating a few bricks as well. 03-drunk
