Curious as to what people think about this, and how it will play out with our league?http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/business/wp/2015/01/05/espn-goes-streaming-through-dishs-sling-tv-no-cable-required/

Need to read the article. It is an option. ESPN is still available on cable.

Heading a bit misleading true, but I think it is the beginning of the end of cable and Espn relying on it so heavily for viewers.

Lol. Its a great option unless you have time and watch every channel on your cable package. Personally speaking I can't imagine going back to traditional cable.
I wonder if you get access to ESPN3 with this. Typically a cable package with ESPN and ESPN2 guaranteed 3 but this isn't cable. If this includes ESPN3 its well worth it.

You only get 12 channels for $20..which is basically a Disney & Time Warner Cable Channel line-up (i.e. no broadcast channels):

Disney ABC Family
Disney Channel
Scripps Network Food Network
HGTV
Travel Channel
ESPN
ESPN2
TNT
TBS
Adult Swim
Cartoon Network
CNN

That's it.

Then Sling will try and see $5 upgraded segmet options...so most will spend a lot more than $20 to have access to their favorite channels.

Actually this is all we watch in my family. So it is perfect.

Is "a bit misleading" the right words --- considering ESPN is still 'part of cable?'

Yeah but with this, Hulu and/or Netlfix what else do you really need? Unless you're the type of person that has to watch everything the minute it's out / new you don't need more really. Besides, how many of those cable channels could you actually watch at once? If this gets you access to watch ESPN the games get archived too.

Out of the Top 50 shows in 2013-2014...only one (ESPN MNF) was in that Top 50 (#15 overall).

By the time some (not all), add extra packages from Sling, Hulu, Netflix, etc...you could almost be right back from where you started with cable/sat but without the hardware (i.e. HD DVR)

If this somehow leads to the beginning of something that hurts espn in anyway, I'm for it.

Actually, it will help ESPN attract more viewers...especially from the "cord cutter" market..many which watch ESPN via illegal (and sometimes very bad quality) online options.

Well, you can also buy a $10 antenna and add about 12 more channels to that line-up.

Fox
CW
ABC
CBS
NBC
PBS
Me TV
Independents, etc.

Also, Bloomberg, CNN World, BBC World, BYUTV, QVC, etc.. are also streamed free on the internet...

So you can easily have 35+ watchable channels for next to nothing now.

DVR+ is a DVR, OTA box, Roku-type box that also streams the linear free channels like Bloomberg all from one place:

http://www.cnet.com/news/channel-master-...-ces-2015/

For free you can get all the big channels, bloomberg, ESPN3 for sports besides whats on regular TV (NFL), weather channel, Crackle for on-demand free movies and sitcoms (poor man's NetFlix), etc... why pay for cable at all?

you can even get a home phone that connects to your internet for virtually nothing. And as data always go down and wireless internet is now competing with cable internet so don't tell me that Time Warner Cable will just be able to boost your internet up ($29 is all you should pay if you negotiate).

Not sure what you're paying for your internet but with a my current internet + roku + hulu + netflix + over the air channels, I'm cutting my cost almost in half and only paying for what I actually watch when I want to watch it.
Who pays for tv these days? You old people!!!!
No ESPNU, ESPNews, ESPN3, FS1, CBSSN, NBCSN, FSOhio, etc... too much content for Cincinnati lost for me to be interested and they know it.

You still need ESPN U, News, 3, CBS Sports Network, Fox Sports. More than 50% of AAC football and bball is not on ESPN or ESPN 2. Fox Sports has the Reds 162 baseball games.

Very good points.
Where is everyone getting their internet access to stream these things?
