Any guesses as to how this goes? UAB has not posted the AD position on its career site yet. I know we have an interim AD who is capable, but I imagine Watts is interested in bringing in an AD with experience at a program without football (and who enjoys not having real power over any big decisions)... thinking an AD currently at an MVC or A-10 program.

This is a chess match. Watts already knows what the faculty senate's next move is... we'll see if Watts blinks.
We need to get rid of Watts.
Get a strong President and not a puppet.
Bring back football and appoint Bill Clark AD until football is safe and the board is changed.
Name Marla or EJ full time AD.

I like this.
I would much rather that we go without a full time AD until after we trigger the ejection seat under Watts.

Or could it be better to get Marla in place now to put even more pressure on Watts to get him out sooner? I'm torn, I think she would definitely benefit the athletic department now, but I also see the merit of waiting and getting someone after Watts is gone.

Maybe CarrSports could help us out with this search . . . I keed, I keed!
Would not mind keeping Clark around either in some role within the AD or as HC when football returns. But do we have any sense on whether Clark even wants to stay if given the option? I think he realizes he has a lot of love among the fans and alumni, but just wondering if he is too upset about the way things went down to stay around if given the chance.

Good news would be that the people that hired, and lied to, him will not be here. I think you immediately bring a new contract to the table, maybe more money, more incentives, more years and see what he says. Definitely first choice for head football coach.

Not sure there are enough hours in the day for him to assume AD also, but I am not against it. Definitely need someone in place that is willing to fight for UAB.

You just described Herman Frazier.
As long as Watts is still president, we really don't need an AD. And who in their right mind would want the job while Watts is here?

Yes he wants to stay and yes he would take the AD position if offered. 03-wink

If that were to happen it would really indicate that heat is being felt. I have no doubt, though, that they would still screw him in the end after things died down a bit...
This is why we can not let up. In fact we need to ramp things up a notch or two!
I expect to have an interim AD for a loooooooong time unless Watts resigns. He obviously wants to call the shots himself anyway. Why hire and pay someone you don't want to listen to?
Another hold up in hiring a new AD may be the wait to see what C-USA is going to do with UAB's athletic programs. There is too much potential for instability right now to make the job very attractive.
I have two simple questions.

Who hired Watts?

Who hires the Athletic Director?

Don't forget to ask "Who must sign off on the contracts for both?"

So I would assume the board of trustees hires UABs president and UABs president hires the athletic director. Am I right or am I wrong?

If this is the case they'd keep Ealy as AD as he'd be more pliable to their wishes in how they want to run down the athletics side. They won't spend anymore on the athletics side as they're in a cutting cycle & things are too toxic for anyone outside to even consider coming in. Now having said that, I agree w/ what others have said needs to happen before we bring football back & starting back in the correct direction
Bill Clark for AD
I'll wait and see who the new president hires.
