Not much meat to the article, mostly opinion.

That said, gaining the extra income, much higher opportunity to play in huge post season games, and the added prestige would elevate several G5 teams to the point where they could possibly compete in P5 conferences.

He just named the champion of each conference

That's exactly what I was just going to say. 04-cheers
The schools IMO:

UCF, USF, Cincinnati, ECU, Memphis, SMU, Houston, BYU, Colorado State, Boise State, San Diego State and UNLV...

I don't think Colorado state, San Diego state or unlv could ever succeed in a p5 conference. I don't think any of those team could have any sort of sustainable success even in a G5 conference

I agree + Memphis, BYU, & USF
If given the money to compete at the same level, many teams could.

I should add this: leaving off Memphis, USF, ECU and even Houston was a pretty dumb thing to do. I would even argue that leaving off UConn was a dumb thing to do, even given the fact that they don't have much history to draw upon.

In CUSA, I really only see Marshall being able to succeed. Southern Miss would have been a "maybe" back-in-the-day... but they have never really had the support that was needed to thrive. UTEP has had the support; I'm not sure about them.

Colorado State, UNLV and SDSU need to be thrown in with Boise State in the west.

I could not speak for anyone else in any other conferences.
Other than the perpetual bottom dwellers, most G5 teams could compete at the P5 level, imo.

No mention of ECU? Highest attendance in G5 and a ton of wins over BCS and P5 teams over the past 15-20 years. He loses all credibility without mentioning the Pirates.

Also Memphis, Houston, USF, BYU, CSU, Fresno St., Marshall, maybe La. tech.

Like I said, there are plenty of G5 schools that would do well in the P5. The article is about nothing.

Put UNLV in a dome (as has been proposed) and they could get a lot better. A whole lot better, they already have basketball and their location going for them. SDSU only if the Chargers move away but really, they're a basketball school now.
What schools are chosen depends on the time frame. Schools that are "hot" right now will differ from those that are qualified long-term. There are dozens of factors that influence long-term success.

To not include UConn on this list is asinine. Of all the G5 schools, probably UConn and BYU have the most resources. UConn is the flagship school in the wealthiest state in the U.S. It easily has the strongest overall athletic program in the G5, and its academics are in the top 25% of the P5.

One bad coaching hire doesn't doom a program or a school.

I get tense when UConn is dissed. A lot of us are like that with our schools. That's why I don't mock other schools... there's a chance I could be wrong, and I might really piss off someone.

I like Colorado State, and I have no connection to the school at all so I'm unbiased. I'd like to add CSU, Fresno, SDSU, and Boise (assuming BYU and Air Force are not options).

Maybe someday.

Lame.

Is the ACC not a power conference?

UConn had combined winning records against Syracuse, Pitt and Louisville. UConn also beat teams like Virginia, Maryland, Wake Forest, NC State, Duke. It lost by 1 point to North Carolina.

We have plenty of evidence that shows Uconn could go .500 easy in the ACC.

I like how UCONN is now defined by one bad hire. Forget our overall history in a former BCS (Power) conference...
