I would love for the Men’s Basketball Team to be invited to one of the Pre Conference Tournaments like the Rainbow Classic where they would be able to play some very good teams on a neutral court in a “true” round robin format. The tournaments that Toledo have been invited to the past several years have predetermined finalists and do not allow for them to play “majors” on a neutral court. Not only would this provide Toledo with great exposure on a national level, it would also provide an opportunity to pick up some high quality wins that would help with its RPI. MAC schools like Ohio, Kent and Akron have been invited in the past to some of these tournaments – why not Toledo?

Have all 3 of them won MAC titles more recently than Toledo? Only thing I can think of...win the MAC and make it to the NCAA and your name becomes more attractive?
If I recall there are 311 division one programs so not everyone will go to one of these. I think Coach TK has done a fine job scheduling for his teams when they were bad and needing to improve and now. VCU Oregon and Duke. I also like the road trips to the Florida Atlantic types that get the kids some warm weather time. Still building. No reason to worry about our schedule

I would like a round robin tourney also, but it's not a must. A must is going 100% at home, beating 80% of teams that we should on the road, and beating one big program a year like VCU, Oregon, or Duke.

To me our OOC results should have included a win at home vs. Detroit, and one of either Duke, VCU, or Oregon. I guess if we beat Duke, I'll forget about the Detroit loss. Winning at home vs. teams like Detroit, Oakland, Robert Morris, Bradley, Bucknell, Cleveland State etc is key to a resume. Losing at home sucks...

Here is a list of MAC Tournament Champions (and time won) in men's basketball SINCE UT last won their last tournament title:

Ohio (6 wins)
Kent (5 wins)
Miami (4 wins)
EMU (4 wins)
Akron (3 wins)
WMU (2 wins)
CMU (2 wins)
NIU (1 win)

I agree with this post, especially the first paragraph. Both the Oakland and UDM losses still sting.
