Full Version: Watching Boca Raton Bowl - nice looking $70M stadium

When UAB proposed a $70M stadium, I wasn't convinced you could build a decent looking stadium for that amount. According to Wikipedia, that is how much FAU spent on their stadium, where the Boca Raton Bowl is being played. Noticed it is also a 30,000 seat stadium. Regions Bank financed $44M of the debt.

Hopefully you guys can make what could have been a reality.
First we have to get our President out of office. Then we have to re-establish a football program. Only then will we need to worry about our OCS.

Priorities.
True that. If we can just get a mostly new football team coached by Bill Clark playing at Legion Field in 2015, we'll be doing good...
I don't see football coming back in 2015. When and if we can get football back, we will have to completely start over and what decent coach in their right mind would come here knowing what has just happened?

No way we could come back in 2015 since we've already been cut out of schedules, and a lot of people already left. An announcement in January that all the teams will be reinstated would be cool, though.

Once the university rids itself of people that don't have any good intentions and football returns, it'd be a team with real support and a blank canvas. Whoever comes won't be confronted with the same nonsense that existed before and there won't be any real expectations until way, way later. If the board attempts to tamper, it'd only lend more credence for people not already in the know to vote for the changes to the board and I would believe that is something they want to avoid at all costs.

A coach would have the ability to implement whatever he wanted with the time to do it the way he wanted. That kind of freedom doesn't come by too often. You don't have to mess with leftover staff or players from previous coaches, you don't have to concern yourself with being on the hot seat when the program was dead before you got there, and there's no way to go but up at this point.

I think they'd be plenty of people interested in the job, especially with the backing of the city, Football Foundation and, hopefully, the new administration backing the building of new facilities and the like. Whoever becomes the athletic director probably won't be beating coaches away with a stick, but I don't believe we'd have to settle for the likes of Callaway. I'd be really happy if Coach Clark was still available but it's not realistic.

Edit: To be a little more on topic, I was watching NFL Live or something and actually caught the beginning of the game but I really couldn't watch it. Our football team going down the way it did really messed up this bowl season for me. Just can't even look at college football without feeling down and I was really, really looking forward to it before all of this. I hope Marshall wins, though.
Much will have to change before anyone comes back or even consider the job - meaning major changes to BOT & control over UAB. Clark may be again as I think he still believes in UAB & what can happen here if he's still available in the next yr or 2, there's going to have to be legal things in public writing signed by some people in Tusc & Mont to his satisfaction & I'm sure he'll have some Harvard/Yale grads that write/enact constitutional law types go over it w/ a fine tooth comb instead of local UAT law grads

We still have Clark. This may also be true of 2016. Don't give up hope just yet. I talked to a member of the Business faculty at the Faculty Senate meeting who said that Club Football for 2015 is very much still a possibility, even worst-case scenario and at Legion Field to boot! The question is "who would play"? Any current student at UAB who wants to! Of course it would be the remaining football players as well, but it would give us someone to cheer for at Homecoming if nothing else.

Coach Clark and maybe Woodfin could coach that to boot, and it could be just as if Watts never issued his awful decree except for loss of TV time and potential conference affiliation.

I like it.

Both of these are strong, engaging points. I have dwelled on these myself several times since our football program was murdered execution style.

We can field a team in 2015.
Actually only one schedule has been officially bought out for next season and that is Tennessee. Clark remains in place. As of this posting no players have signed with other teams, just committed. They will start signing in January. from what I am told if it is reversed quickly we will retain a good portion of players. The Tennessee game or possibly another can be replaced with FCS teams. Still many looking for games.

That said I expect Watts to drag things out as long as possible to do everything he can to kill any chance to field a team in 2015. I see football being restored quickly but not quickly enough to play in 2015 but it is possible if the BOT feels the political pressure and are told to back off. (a lot going on we cant elaborate on publicly) Many eyes watching on the main board.

I am 100% confident football will return. I just cant tell you if it's in January in 2015, 16, or later. It will return. We must not slack up .

More details and instructions coming soon.
I hope that is true...

And if it is I will join Blazerboosters. I could not bring myself to do it before because 1) I live out of town, and (primarily) 2) I felt like I would be contributing to something that would never be given a real chance to succeed.

Clearly that plays right into their hands.

If I get a chance again... screw it. I want to help as much as I can.
