Football Writers Of America - Top 5 IN THE COUNTRY for Eddie Robinson award
AAC - Top coach in conference
Memphis - 5th best paid coach in the conference.

Over $2 million would have shown a commitment and would have encouraged loyalty. $1.4 million is the opposite of loyalty and encourages flight. We are underpaying him next year, after we ended up grossly underpaying him this year.

Fuente not only saved the football program; he is basically the only reason why we are probably going to get into the Big 12. Technically, everything else is in place, but none of it would have meant a thing if we had just finished off another 3 win season.

Seems like a kick in the teeth, if you ask me.
He hasn't won a bowl game yet. Maybe he should have waited another week.

Absolutely. None of it makes sense to me.
No way he doesn't walk away next year unless they plan on giving him 4 million a year. They dropped the ball big time.
If he doesn't win Monday, and win 12 games, or more, next year, his career is over. at Memphis anyway.
He didnt have to sign it there were other options for him

That brings up what I think is another good point. If you pay him $2.4 next year, then if he does continue to do well, you probably buy loyalty, and don't have to pay him $4 million the year after.
That is crazy. 1.4? And we wanna compete with the big boys? They are paying assistants 1+Mil.
Who is "they", o greasy one?

03-nutkick We gave him the chance to be a head coach. Good for us.
He performed above and beyond what we expected. Good for
him.
He is happy, we are happy. Good for both of us.
He likes us, we like him but based on what he did for the
University of Memphis we definetely should have offered
considerably more on his new contract to keep him as our coach
for many years to come and we should have a much larger buy
out to help guarantee that. Oh well, maybe he has a great
incentive package that we don't know about yet. In my opioion
he should be equal in pay to what Josh makes as our basketball
coach. I really think that he has brought more national
attention to our program in a shorter amount of time than our
basketball program has. Pay the man what he is worth now for
performance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should have been his agent,

I'm out. Happy trails
Sad. Fuente is gone after next year.
If this were the NBA, they'd negotiate a two player trade with his new team and make them pick up Pastner's guaranteed whale of a contract allowing us to start over next year.
JF's salary looks a little low compared to the top AAC coaches but with his bonus structure, he is virtually assured approx. $1.8M & could get to $2.1M realistically. That is about where it should be given the recent university history, the AAC comparisons & the university's ability to pay. Most important is that JF has been able to get a substantial budget for his assistants, on par with anyone in the AAC. I like the idea of a component of his salary being based upon performance - frankly that's how most salaries in every industry should be structured. Another important consideration, I would think, is that as JF's salary increases, so will his buyout. While the buyout amount and structure might not keep a UF level program from getting JF, it would certainly limit the available P5 jobs, a limit JF might not want if he has a mind to leave at some point. Point being this is a mutual agreement, both parties are likely pleased & uncomfortable at the same time.
Maybe the boosters are afraid of "The Pastner Effect"
The same losers can't take 2 minutes out of their day to NOT bash Pastner in every single thread.
I was actually shocked at 1.4 million I thought it would be substantially more.. My first thought was is the University as committed to the FB program as most people think.. This tells me next year if he is as successful as this year that his decision to leave will be much easier when people come calling..

So if he reaches certain bonuses, he MIGHT get close to same money that some of the other coaches are making, not including their bonuses. Disgusting.

We have basically fired Fuente.

While I won't stoop to your low level of petty name calling I am at every home game supporting the team. Unlike you. All you have is this message board to call people out that you don't even know.
Besides, isn't it spelt louser in Canadia?

Hypocrite bashes our basketball coach over and over and over and calls him a clown, in a football thread no less; and is now all upset at being called a loser.
