Yeah, I've followed UT for well over fifty years. Nichols is Number one in that time, Coach K is Two and moving toward Number One A. Different eras, different styles but Kowalczyk has proven his mettle.
Coach K has had some strange post game comments like "some teams coach to play hard, we coach to execute." Still, his results speak for themselves. He brought two transfers with him that totally turned our program around... Something no coach has been able to do in 25+ years. Then he has recruited some talent, and our last coach didn't do much of that let me tell you... Josh Freelove is pretty good (for Buffalo). The quality of MAC basketball has not been something to brag about in a while, but going on the records of the MAC teams this year we look to be rebounding as a conference. Not only to MAC teams have pretty good records thus far, but have some marquee wins also. I expect nothing other than for the conference to beat itself up in MAC play, but I do see the largest chance in probably 8 or 9 years for a MAC team to win a tourney game. Hopefully our representative will be an 11 or 12 seed and have a fair shot.

BTW: Lafayette college... Stay within 10 of Kansas with Wiggins then you'll be better than us. 3% at Duke means nothing to me. We're from the MAC, and they are #2 in the country. No one should expect Toledo to win... but even though we aren't pulling out some victories that we did last season, we aren't getting blown out either. Don't be surprised if Juice Brown continues to light it up from three and Jordan Lauf hustles Toledo to a within 10 point loss.
ohio went to the sweet 16 three years ago (should have went elite 8 but missed a free throw in the final seconds that would have beat n carolina). ohio also won an ncaa game 5 years ago.

overall, the mac isn't fierce, but is having a solid year. not many losses to weaker teams and already 2 wins over big ten, 1 over pac 10, 1 over sec. buffalo led kentucky at half and freakin central michigan is 7-1. consider that ball st (probably the weakest team in the conf so far) is missing their top player, who should be healthy for mac season and eastern is missing a talented frosh pg (will be back for mac season) on a team whose biggest weakness is ball distribution, and the league will be pretty tough.

i can't see an at large mac team, but certainly more top 150 type teams in the league this year than recent seasons
Dre Applewhite in his college career has had a season missed due to a knee injury and played a low number of minutes in his second season. Let's relax and let him shake off the rust in real game situations before calling for the coach's head after he makes correct comments about the state of the team and the rotation.

He might have been 27-7 last year but that might have just been a fluke. I watched him in the first half of the ASU game, when we were playing poorly, and it looked like he wasn't even coaching. I think team play has gotten worse, coaches have departed, players have left, he argued with Pearson last year, and now he says that a player that started for a much better program needs to work himself into the line-up. Give me a break! We're not talking about Duke or Kentucky here....this is a team that couldn't even beat Western Michigan last year! I don't live in Toledo anymore but I've watched every game on TV or the web.I've followed the team for almost 50 yrs......maybe I'm expecting a Bobby Nichols type guy to be on the sidelines directing the team. GO ROCKETS!

Umm, what??? Miss St. just lost to Arkansas St. last night!
I don't ever remember hearing Coach K say that Dre Applewhite was going to be an important key to this season. As far as team chemistry taking a transfer and placing him in your rotation just because of his reputation is a no-no. I feel very comfortable with the way coach K is handling this. I'm also very happy with the direction of the program, good team GPA's, seems to be recruiting good young men. Sure I want every UT team to be undefeated in OOC play and would love to be ranked in the top twenty yearly. The reality is NO MAC team is doing this or has done this on a consistent basis for as long as I can remember and I go back to 1972 with watching UT and the MAC. As a MAC program the OOC needs to be used to generate income (road games to top programs) and to build RPI. Until someone does something OOC on a consistent basis winning the MAC tournament is our only guarentee to the NCAA's. That should always be our goal. 27-5 is nice, but 20-15 with a MAC tournament championship will be just as nice as we all want to see UT in the NCAA's.
Lets judge this team in March 2015, and support it until then.

Very well said "84". Now lets get our butts in Savage Arena. 4,100 last night? I'm sorry, but that was sad. There should be over 6,000 for every home game and the place should be rocking.
It was mid exam week... Give us a break. I am a die hard and still couldnt make it. Why would the casual rocket fan who rarely attends mid week games chose one vs. Robert Morris?

MAC play is when we need our students and fans. WMU, CMU, EMU, BG and NIU especially.

How about when the PA announcer told the crowd "rock this place" then they play some soft beat techno garbage for the fans to "rock" to. Who selects the music???? TERRIBLE!!!!!!
Someone has also gone crazy with the organ music... doesn't seem to fit at a basketball game.

The truth is that at many of the games with 4,000+ attendance don't have anywhere near that.

Occasionally yell, "Hit Somebody!" maybe throw an occasional octopus onto the court and it'll all make sense.
Getting back to the thread topic Jeff Goodman of ESPN has reported that Applewhite has left the Rockets and will transfer. It is in a members only article listing end of semester transfers. He has been removed from our roster on the Verbal Commits site based on this report. No confirmation from UT at this time.

He was on the Bench last night
Still on the roster on the athletic website.
That Applewhite transfer info makes no sense? WTF?
Sounds like trouble in paradise.

Agee----I assume BB rules about non-medical red-shirting are the same as for FB: a five year window to get in four years of play. A few more transfers and his window of eligibility will be gone before he ever sees the court.
that makes no sense. why would you leave a starting spot transfer to a school you otherwise have no connection to, sit out an entire year and then the week before you finally get eligible, leave the school??? plus, he was on the bench and cheering for the team last night. i'll believe the transfer report when i see it.
