I'm not sure where I'd come down on this....

I thought the Tobey Maguire trilogy was on the whole a decent telling of the Spiderman tale. My dislikes were his Peter Parker being so mopey/emo in certain parts and the hard sell on the Mary Jane love story. Mainly because when I watched Spiderman and his Amazing Friends (80s cartoon) I never got the feeling he was so "weak." And the 3rd movie suffered the same fate of Batman and Robin on the side of too many villains being brought into the fold.

The Andrew Garfield ones I liked because Spidey less of a loser and more of a "normal" guy. I liked the energy of the cast. The only thing that kind of irked me about the two movies is they felt like they were constructed with the mindset of tinkering around too much with a good story line for the sake of introducing too many subplots.

If they scrap the Garfield ones without finishing it up and do another series all together I hope they don't F* it up royally just to appease the Marvel guys.
I have faith in Disney/Marvel. I think they want to go with an actual teenager to play spiderman or at least someone not in his 30's. If D/M gets back spidey I don't think they do an origin story at first.

And lots of other stories on the fate of the Spiderman movies @ Sony too to be found there...
Found something both funny and relevant:

Heh...

I wish they would go back to Spiderman and his Amazing Friends

Firestar(?), Iceman, and Spiderman.... show was legit and better than the movies so far...
Tobey Maguire ruined Spiderman 3 with that Parade scene. after that I was done with the series. The newer series is better but still needing something. special effects are really good though.
See I liked Tobey as Peter... and I kinda prefered Garfield as Spidey.

Peter at that point in the movies was supposed to be a "lacking in confidence" kinda real-person... and a smart-ass wise-cracker super-hero. It was almost like (until Spidey 3 with Tobey, where he kinda missed on both sides) they each got half of it right and the other half completely wrong.

I do agree, they won't do another "origin" story, unless they do it VERY briefly. Fans want to see Spidey move on to the next chapter (if that's his pairing up with the Avengers, then so be it).
This is like completely awesome news!!!

I preferred the Tobey spider-man series rather than the new one. I still haven't watched the first one. I just get tired of watching the same origins story and stop the DVD. I did watch the second one. It's a shame they might cancel that series and reboot it. I think the reboot should wait several years. If they want spidey in a movie, make him an extra in another Marvel movie.

It's not really a reboot. They are just including him in the Marvel/Disney Universe with the Avengers. They are also going to actually tell it the correct way for once.
I watched the 3 original with Tobey.. And I just re-watched "The Amazing Spider-Man" and the sequel for the first time this weekend. I liked the newer ones. To me the original made Peter Parker too nerdy.

I actually liked the Garfield guy as Peter Parker/Spiderman. Oh well one day they'll figure it out, but it'll be after everyone is burned out on Spidey.
I think Sony/Marvel are going to cast a teenager as Spider-man. I suspect we are going to have a 13 year old playing the part, as the character should be.

I would not be surprised if a Spider-man, the character and not just an Osborne building, easter egg shows during the new Avengers movie and a re-write of the Captain America 3 (Civil War) script happens. In fact, I suspect the next Spider-man movie will be a tweener that includes the build up to Captain America 3.
IMO the real issue with Spidey in the MCU is that their characters don't have secrets identities while clearly Spiderman does. The reveal in the Civil War comics of Peter Parker's identity is why the entire saga turned into a clusterf**k.
