I hope you don't mind me hi-jacking your link. I posted it on Al.com. Whew! its brutal over there. By the way excellent find.
The problem with the article is that this fight is not about Alabama refusing to play UAB. Evans says that UAB's football problem was that Bama wouldn't play them. That is not the problem. It's not about money. Posting and tweeting this article perpetuates that.

I saw this link on twitter, read it, and re-tweeted "Evans missed the point."

I appreciate his perspective, but he clearly doesn't understand the real problem.
I actually don't like articles like this one. They make us look needy and dependent on Bama for success. Sure they could've played us, but we've had a couple of buy games per season for several years. Does it make any difference if that money came from UT, FSU, Oklahoma, LSU, or Michigan St. Or Bama. Either way we got the big check.[/b]
Well when your pay check for the money game is 400k-600k and Bama's handing out 1.5 mil for nonconference games

And that Bama money is going to our competitors in C-USA, or those who used to be our competitors in C-USA.
Thanks for posting this story. I had not seen that quote from Gov. Bentley before. It speaks volumes to why he suddenly refused to go on record about UAB football. Here's the quote:

Quote:"The decision has to be made by the president," Bentley said when asked by the Montgomery Advertiser about the UAB decision. "It cannot be made by the board of trustees because if you did that, you'd get in the same trouble other universities have gotten into in the past. Board of trustees members are classified as boosters. So if they're involved in intercollegiate athletics, they can get the university in trouble with SAAC and the NCAA."

If it comes out that the BOT killed UAB football, this will come back to bite everyone. The BOT told Bentley to STFU, and so now he won't even answer questions about it.

UAB might've got similar money, regardless the opponent, provided the AD was truly negotiating money games in their best interest. Who's to say there wasn't influence from others regarding that too.

Can you imagine the Bama fan's reaction if UAB could have given millions to Bama's SEC competitors? They would squeal like stuck pigs.

I disagree. Most Bama fans could care less about UAB's millions and what they do with them. Most Bama fans support UAB and wouldn't mind playing UAB.

Why do we have to continually to post this stuff?

I haven't looked them up but I'm sure the amounts we got for "buy" games are public record. I would guess UT, Mich St., Florida st., LSU, and Oklahoma paid more and Arkansas and Miss. St. Paid less.
