Ray Watts has called an emergency faculty meeting today 1 p.m. at the admin building.

Believed to be an effort to stop the 'no confidence' vote on Tuesday.
Sounds like a good time for a protest march would be about 12:30. It'll be hard for him to claim he's got everything running like a well oiled machine if all Hell is breaking loose right outside.

When a dictator is about to lose position they try to stall for more time in hopes that things may blow over and they can stay in power.
I guess he's feeling the heat. Too bad. He shouldnt have poked the bear, heh.
Administration Building? Sounds like a case of same bat time same bat channel. I'll show up if the students can pull something together at this late hour.
Maybe he's going to explain how he hopes money recovered from football is going to make their jobs more secure. "My friend Paul assured me things will get better now that football is not dragging us down".
Just wondering, Is it safe for Dr. Watts to say when he's going to be at a particular location?

With his (not free) state security detail I guess he's feeling a little more brazen.

You scooped me by 4 minutes but I couldn't figure out how to delete the thread. 04-cheers
Does the same attendance policy apply to emergency meetings?

You were getting more attention in this one, so I deleted mine. Better to keep the board uncluttered!

They have security on all doors into Admin now, you can't get in without ID and being admitted.

MM is on this. Even as over worked as he is.

Per the other medium...:
We need access to this meeting. The public is supposed to be able to be at Faculty Senate meetings unless they are specifically voted on to be Executive Sessions (which requires 2/3 vote). The additional security at the Admin Building provides a way to keep people out.

Does this not constitute a closed meeting? Doesn't Alabama have laws which this would explicitly violate?

Faculty Senate bylaws indicate the meetings are open unless it is an executive session:

"I.6. Access to Meetings of the Senate and Its Standing Committees

I.6.a. Any person may attend a meeting of the senate or one of its committees to observe the proceedings.

I.6.b. Anyone other than a senator may address the senate only by invitation of the senate or its Chair. Visitors may address the senate if they are recognized by the Chair.

I.6.c. The senate or one of its committees may hold executive sessions from which all persons except senators, senators ex-officio, alternate senators, and any such other persons as the senate or one of its committees shall admit are excluded. A motion to go into executive session shall have the parliamentary precedence of a question of privilege, is debatable, may be amended, and requires a two-thirds majority vote of those present for its adoption. I know it's getting late but I just imagined Ray Watts having to appear before the faculty senate while standing inside one of those glass cages used by unruly defendants in courtrooms.
I wonder if Watts won't use the faculty meeting (which I assume is not open to the public) as an opportunity to explain the Administration's position in a calmer atmosphere, perhaps answering many questions (and all senators can be there as faculty anyway) rather than the tenser atmosphere that you'd expect at the senate meeting with the public there.

And he may use that meeting to talk to the senate by talking to the faculty and then NOT be present at the senate meeting on Tuesday. I do not have any inside information about this.
Interesting theory! It's like playing some kind of crazy space chess with an idiot: they keep cheating and trying to stay one step ahead of you but you just know every step they make is actually them digging a hole even deeper toward their ultimate downfall!

I wish Dr. Watts would step forward and allow the faculty to decide upon the fate of UAB Football, Rifle Team, and Bowling.

Enough said.
Is this confirmed?
I am talking with our two faculty senate members today. I'll just have a few minutes. Would someone provide me with 4 or 5 concise talking points that will have the greatest impact?
