Point Guard

I saw early on where some thought JT did not play any better than Devon to win the starting job. JT is the better player.

The offense

We have a lot of players. I think the skill level is up. The bad thing is we just don't seem to be able to get open looks.

The Crowd

The program has been killed from the AD that killed the tip in club, the move across town, and the boring style of ball we play.

It was dead at the jack.

I felt really sad today seeing that crowd of 500 people. Peter, Micky, and Jim were there and I could not help but think about how magical things were at Altel but they have all but died now.

No Bob in the stands.

Its really sad to see something that was so fun come to an end.

Do you really think the move to the Jack hurt attendance that much? Even though it's a ten to fifteen minutes longer trip for me, I enjoy the games at the Jack a lot better. I agree that the atmosphere was better at Alltel, and the crowds were certainly better.

I still contend that several things are in play in relation to the attendance. (1) The tickets are too high for no better a program than we have. I've only seen one game in person this year, but the talent level is better than it's ever been under Shields, but (2) I believe the fans have given up on him ever taking this program any further than he has to this point. (3) Poor relationship with the local coaches for recruiting purposes. (4) No Doubt Peterson is responsible for running some fans off. (5) We can't ever seem to win OC games from teams from higher level programs. (6) No support from the two cities elected officials. (7) The worst press and TV coverage probably of any team in the Belt. (8) The worst and cheap-assed coaching show I've ever seen. Looks like a high school production. (9) Pitiful radio situation for play by play. (10) Terrible PR program. (11) And as you said, some probably didn't come after we left Alltel. I'm sure there are probably some I've missed.

That's enough to made a healthy program sick, but it can kill one that's already on it's death bed.

Chris may have priced out some of our old season ticket holders. Still, until the 6 (or 7?) buck endzone seats are sold out, no one can complain about ticket prices.
the biggest thing that hurt the program about the move was the loss of that vibe that the tip in club had at that time.

I do think the more across town hurt us in some way.

Mickey it's tough on old asses to sit on bleacher seats. I couldn't do it, nor can many other people who have bad backs. There is no reason to have bleacher seats in an arena this nice. I've never been in the hogs arena, but does it have any bleacher seats? Doesn't look like it from watching TV. They could have put the plastic seats in the end zones at the Jack, and every seat would have been a chair back.
We f'd up putting all that money in the leather seats....

You're right. I can't sit on bleachers either. But, when I was young and couldn't afford better, I would have been happy to sit there.

Me too when I was young, but other than Travelers Field, Lamar Porter Field and Barton Coliseum, I didn't know anything else in Little Rock had chair backs.
I agree. The bleacher prices are OK, but it is getting harder and harder to sit there for a whole game.
Sad to say this but, watching the game yesterday, such a sparse crowd about half with gray hair and bald heads like myself, I'm thinking has the men's BB program sunk so low that it can't be salvaged? For much too long fans have been expected to support a very boring style of BB. Other teams come here with true BB players. Trojans seem to recruit good athletes who also play BB. Like plow horses racing against thoroughbreds. I recall hoping Verizon/Horizon would be needed for Trojan BB. Never would have believed a 5M to 6M arena would be much larger than needed. If Memphis joins the Big 12, some Arkansas folks from LR east can become Tiger fans. Memphis is closer than fayetteville.

Many of us stated that from the get go! Priced for hard core fans and rich people. It''s beneath rich people in Little Rock to be a UALR fan. Must give all their support to the Razorbacks. Middle class and below can't afford the leather seats. So that's just one more thing for the new AD to address to clean up Chris's mess.03-hissyfit

It is tough to sit on bleachers. However, you can pay for bleacher seats and sit in the "upper deck" chairbacks without any hassle. I don't believe they have seat Nazi's up there. Still the nice thing about the bleachers is you are right down near the court.

I don't know how you get younger folks to games. Hopefully, our new AD does. We seem to have almost nobody at our games younger than 55 or so. We have had decent student crowds, for several years now, but it does not appear that any of them continue to attend games once they graduate. I assume most live in central Arkansas. I would advocate giving every graduate free season tickets, for a year, or maybe charge them a nominal fee (ex. 25 bucks) so they show some minor commitment to their school. Have to get some young adults to our games.
I think the program is a long way from being dead. We're in a dead period right now. No AD. Playing games on weekend afternoons, which is totally stupid. Possibly a lame duck coach. And maybe as someone posted, looking at another 16 win season. That's just not going to get it done. Once the new guy comes in, and if he has any brains at all, he'll make sweeping changes in the program to get it going, both attendance and productivity on the court. It might take more than one coaching change, but you work at it until you get it right.

It may not be DEAD dead, but when you go to a college basketball game with less than a thousand there, well, it's dead in my book. They may field a team each year, and sell season tickets, but it's dead. Or at least it is to me. I'll not waste my time and money any longer, supporting a program that doesn't make an effort to improve itself and get better. You can put the blame anywhere you want to, but the ultimate blame in my book goes to the chancellor who has allowed this impersonation of a D-1 basketball program to go on for so long.
Well at least a change is coming, so let's give it a chance.
I am ready to see what happening.

I seriously doubt that many, if any, from Little Rock would convert to Memphis Tiger fans. However, I have to agree that going to a Trojan basketball game these days is like going to the Senior Center to watch one. Way short on fans in general, but specifically way short on those under 60.

PTJR. Does Campbell draw young fans other than students? I'm sure Richmond does. How do they do it? You have kids who are sports fans like mine, but how do you get the average 20 to 40 year olds out to the games? I used to argue you could see a UALR game for less than a movie- But now you can watch movies on big screen TV's at home for a buck and a half from Redbox. I'm really starting to believe we have a generation of young adults who are used to getting their entertainment on big screen TV's, computers, I-Pads, and phones or, if they go out and like sports, they go to sports bars and watch multiple games on big screens.
We shot very well from the arc yesterday (47.8%), but a horrendous 29.5% from inside the arc. Roger was 3 for 12, Mareik was 2 for 7, James was 5 for 15.
