A lot of strongly declarative statements have been made regarding where UAB will end up. No one has any clue.

Although staying in CUSA is not my top option, I now think it might be more likely than prior today. The Big 12 just got shut out of the playoffs. Many believe it is because they do not have a conference championship. Some media are reporting that they might move to 12 teams and the two teams mentioned are Memphis and Cincinnati.

If this happens, recent history has shown us that the American Conference will go to CUSA to get more teams. If that happens, what is CUSA going to do. Raid the Sun Belt again? Or will they change their bylaws to include non-football playing schools.

My point is no one knows what is going to happen in the ever changing landscape of college athletics.
If UAB does not play football next year (meaning no crazy intervention, but with all the lies, we may have a shot!) AAC would be smart to look at adding teams for other sports such as UAB and VCU.
I think all the support that UAB athletics is seeing from the alumnus and students helps UAB's conference affiliation cause. I hope football is revived, but we have killed the myth that no ones cares about UAB athletics.
These are VERY exciting times for UAB Athletics

Guess what helped that cause for the last 20 years.....Football!

Well played. 04-cheers
Big 12 commissioner just said that he feels not having a conference championship hurt them in getting in the playoffs. He said they will go back to the drawing board and look at possibly expanding to 12 or getting the rule changed to have a playoff with fewer to 12.

So it begins.
The AAC has 11 members. And currently all of which play football.

Who could have predicted such a thing?

Navy joins next season football only
The only reason Watts said he wants to stay in C-USA is because he hopes they throw us out. If UAB quits then it will owe the exit fee to the conference but if UAB is run off then they can hope to avoid having to pay up.
If AAC loses anyone, they probably add UMass...

So does this make Mackin a prophet? Or was his earlier statement suggesting that he was unofficially passively-aggressively rooting for the uprising the backlash of the inevitable decision would cause??

UAB to the Big XII would be the ultimate backfire middle-finger to the BOT. Not only might they take us without football, but they may even provide us significant legal and/or financial support to get our program back on its feet!!

I think you missed something in my post. Big 12 doesn't add a non football playing member because they need to get to 12 in football. 03-banghead
There is no way UaB is allowed to (forced to) fail upwards.

That sort of luck is reserved for SEC coordinators, Ray Watts & Barack Obama.
What most (perhaps, all) have pointed to is that C-USA has "a bylaw" that requires member schools to have football teams. Rules (as the Big XII guy mentioned) can be changed and that includes those of C-USA. What is being asked is IF UAB must find another conference "home", what are the best choices for our remaining sports?

As long as there remains so much doubt nationally that UAB can operate ANY athletic program without having to constantly get permission from the system BOT (that 300lb "gorilla" behind us in any "family" picture), it is unlikely that we will be seriously considered by any conference of substantial repute. This damage to our reputation may be beyond our ability to rebuild.

I am sure the Big 12 will apply for an exemption to have a CG with 10 teams first before considering expansion.

He sounded like they have already done that, but he definitely said they would look at expanding.
