Baylor hires PR firm to lobby for playoff spot.

http://awfulannouncing.com/the-locker/ba...-spot.html
Point 1: #39 West Virginia 41, #7 Baylor 27

Point 2: Baylor's non-conference schedule

@Baylor 45, #121 SMU 0
@Baylor 70, FCS Northwestern St. 6
@Baylor 63, #115 Buffalo 21

Point 3: Baylor's 3-point victory over TCU was @Baylor

Point 4: TCU's non-conference schedule

@TCU 48, FCS Samford 14
@TCU 30, #31 Minnesota 7
TCU 56, @#121 SMU 0

Advantage to TCU. The FCS schools and SMU cancel out. The tie-breaker on the schedule is #31 Minnesota versus #115 Buffalo. Not even close. Plus, TCU at least had ONE of their 3 non-conference games on the road (albeit a short road).
Also, on Massey's College Football Ranking Composite, TCU is ranked #3, while Baylor is #8. THAT is a significant difference.

I've been looking for someone doing a BCS-like calculation for this year, just to see. And it's not really close between TCU and Ohio State for 4 and 5.

Not an exact comparison, as some substitutions have to be made. But a 4 or 8 team playoff based on the "BCS" calcs would be:

1. Alabama
2. Florida St
3. Oregon
4. TCU

5. Ohio St
6. Baylor
7. Arizona
8. Mississippi St

Michigan State barely misses the cut for #8, with Kansas State at #10 about the same distance from Mississippi State as Ohio State from TCU (which I said wasn't that close). There's still 1 more week to go, with this weekend's game sure to adjust some of this.

I have Mississippi State at #15, in great part because of their pathetic non-conference schedule:

@Miss. St. 49, #117 So. Miss. 0
@Miss. St. 47, #82 UAB 34
@Miss. St. 35, #99 South Alabama 3
@Miss. St. 46, FCS Tenn-Martin 15
TCU had a 21 point lead in the 4th quarter in the game against Baylor in Waco. That was truly a miraculous comeback by the Bears, but in watching the complete game, I thought TCU was the better team. If that game were in Fort Worth, I would say that TCU would have won by a minimum of 10 points.

I also think last year's Fiesta Bowl game in which Baylor lost to UCF is impacting the pollsters. A stronger non-conference schedule could have alleviated those concerns, but instead they chose to play weak opponents.

And, it won't be getting any better ...

Future Non-conference opponents for Baylor:

2015 - @SMU, Lamar, RICE

2016 - Northwestern State, SMU, @RICE

2017 - Liberty, UTSA, @Duke

2018 - @UTSA, Duke, n/a

2019 - Incarnate Word, UTSA, @RICE

Future TCU schedules include @Minnesota, as well as home-and-home against Arkansas, Ohio State and Cal-Berkeley

Agree that TCU should be ranked above Baylor this year.

But the argument about SOS, including a look at Baylor's future schedule seems to argue that any P5 team worth their salt should avoid the vast majority of G5 schools, including Rice, like the plague.

Not sure how that helps us get the wins the Board is wanting.
This looks more like that old sandwich board we talk about.
