Greg McElroy (former UA QB) is having a very passionate discussion about UAB Football and citing this failure as the totally responsibility of Paul Bryant Jr and the BOT. He cannot understand why Jr has let it get to this point and says he know for sure that this isn't something Saban or many connected to the UA program wants to see happen at UAB.
Glad to hear some UA folks speaking out. Will likely need more to make a difference. Wish Saban could give a public statement. He shouldn't be afraid of anyone. He could call PBJr a scumbag and he'd still keep his job.
Wow. Incredible...They're coming from all sides at this bas***d, and rightfully so, good on Mr. McElroy...Perhaps UA Football followers, real ones, the cerebral ones, not the "tammys" or other "finebaum followers" out there, are not all pleased with this and want no part of this to be affilated with their school.

It makes since for the 15% to support UAB right now. UA is taking as much of a publicity hit as PBJ and the BoT.
Brando has made this into a Bama vs UAB thing and last week, invited someone from the other side to come on the show.

Really? You think so? I'm not so sure, but so far, the "us vs. them" banter hasn't been conveyed by anyone supporting UAB yet, some "Updyke" calling himself "Cornbread" called Matt Murphy's show to try and start a train wreck, Murphy shot him down immediately.
McElroy is a sharp guy. If the OD would replace that boob Barker with him, I might start listening them again.

I know we haven't made it into a UA vs UAB thing, but many outside the state have done so.

Matrix, good call in on Murphy's show this morning.
I think McElroy is speaking for many Alabama fans. Indeed, I might even go so far as to say he's speaking for most Alabama fans under 40. For that reason, I think the hatred spewed at all things UAT on here is misguided, if also understandable. We're not talking about a monolithic entity but, rather, a powerful cadre from a passing generation.

Well stated.

I agree 100%

I think you're probably correct...I suspect a lot of the vitriol on here is not because of UAT football or (all) its fans, but rather because the Crimson Turd seems to be the only thing that the Triumvirate of Hate acknowledges. The feeling is sort of, "if you take something I love and believe in I will do my damnedest to return the favor".
My hatred for UAT has very little to do with being over 40 and a UAB fan. People all over the country, some who have never even heard of UAB, hate Bama.
I think this whole event has been eye opening for some Alabama fans who legitimately had no idea this was going on. We wonder how they couldn't know but we are all involved. This hasn't been a big media story but now it is. And people are discovering their infallible UA administrators are not what they had thought they were.

Thanks, man!
I'm sure it's true that many people from "all over the country...hate Bama," though I've rarely found that to be the case in the places I have lived.
But that wasn't what I was saying anyway. My point was that the almost gnostic dualism between UAB and UAT, between "light" and "darkness," is not an accurate description of the situation. There are some Alabama fans who root for UAB, some who are indifferent to UAB, and some who hate UAB (and vice versa). Portraying things in either-or terms is not only unrealistic but unproductive, since it alienates potential allies and distracts from the truth--that this is a convoluted, messy political situation, which has to do with so much more than "hating" Alabama (or "hating" UAB).
That's why I wasn't surprised at McElroy's comments. There are plenty of young UAT graduates who live in the Birmingham area and who spend their money in the city (especially since it's revitalization). Why condemn them so harshly, when they could be part of the solution? It's just bad politics.
There was a tweet where someone wearing an Alabama shirt was walking by the protest and was swayed to put on a UAB shirt. I welcome all UA folks to join. This isn't just about football. This isn't about UA propping up UAB. This is about self governance and our right to determine our own destiny.

Yes, and it's about the future of Birmingham. That, to me, is the key to the whole thing.
