having to play 16th seeded Kansas on their home court. It doesn't look so bad right now. According to the RPI, we are 31, Creighton is 24, and Oregon State is 36. So if you go strictly by the RPI, Oregon State should have played Kansas in the first round and we should have matched up with Creighton. However, more goes into placement, than just RPI, and we are only a few spots ahead of Pac10 Oregon State who I'm sure played a much tougher schedule.
But now the positives of our placement. We are in the bracket with the lowest seeded team (only 16 teams are seeded), and thus it could be argued that we have the easiest road to the Sweet 16. Second, the games will be played off-campus in Topeka- I don't know if Kansas has ever played a game there. Third, the reason the tournament is in Topeka is that Kansas men's basketball team is playing Florida on Friday night at Allen Fieldhouse. So we will be playing Kansas off campus, while their students and fans will be either at Allen Fieldhouse or watching the Jayhawks game on TV. Our chances, whatever they might be, are much better facing Kansas on Friday as opposed to Saturday when they certainly would have a much bigger crowd. So I honestly don't know what the chances are of us beating Kansas. However, we have the best possible path of actually getting to the Sweet 16 that we could have hoped for.
It's 14 degree in Topeka tonight. But if the predicted warm-up occurs I plan to be their to support the best UALR athletic team since the Little Rose Bowl Championship 60+ years ago.
