If Utah St. can upset Boise St. or the right MWC team loses the conference championship? Does NIU have a shot @ the Peach Bowl? Lots of $ for the MAC!!
I think the West champ from the MWC needs to upset Boise or Utah State.

Sadly, the poor MAC OOC will hold us back when comparing conference resumes. NIU has not exactly dominated the competition either, no bonus pts there.
If Boise wins out, they are in. If Utah State beats them tomorrow night, and then wins the MWC, and NIU wins the MAC, NIU would be 11-2, Utah State 10-3. It would be a close comparison. If either Utah State or Boise loses the MWC game, then NIU might get in. They would be compared to Marshall or the AAC champion. Marshall can still finish 12-1 and CUSA champ so they would still be under consideration if Boise loses.
niu would not fare well this year vs a top 15 opponent

True, but NIU (10 - 2) lost to CMU (that hurt) but losing to Arkansas is no sin.

Arkansas (6 - 6) has beaten nationally ranked LSU and Ole Miss, and missed by one point vs. 'Bama and played a lot of other tough teams close. This is a very good team.

NIU just doesn't have a bunch of marque players whom folks are dying to see play.
Too bad NIU lost to CMU.

At least its not as embarrassing as giving up 750 yards and 67 points to WKU
NIU's in if Boise/Utah State loses to San Diego State/Fresno State (MWC Game) + Marshall loses to LA-Tech.

SLIGHT chance for NIU going @11-2 with a weak SoS VS Marshall @12-1 with a bit weaker SoS.

We'll see how well NIU & Marshall fare in votes in several polls tomorrow afternoon -- which will reflect upon the ball-park-range of how the Committee sees it.

But for all practical purposes, we'll pretty much need upsets in MWC & CUSAC games for NIU to go.

Yea NIU doesn't really have the firepower for that but it's fun to talk about.
A MAC program getting 2 of the 3 first Access Bowl bids would be hilarious as the AAC & MWC believe they are in a league of their own
i mean i kinda hope the mac gets niu in as it gives the league prestige on one level and motivates the other programs. then again, niu got clobbered by a good (but not new years day bowl type) arkansas team. i'd worry how they represent the mac against someone like mississippi state, arizona, wisconsin, whoever is at that 10-15 type ranking spot.

Not sure what this even means but the AAC just had a team play in, and win, the Fiesta Bowl against the Big 12 champion last year.

I think Rawls just went 50 yards on a stretch play again.

Well I'll explain this to you in plain English; the AAC thinks they are better than the MAC, CUSA or SBC. Some in the MWC also hold that opinion. A MAC programming getting the Access Bowl bid twice in the first 3 years of it's availability would shoot alot of holes in the belief that one G5 conference is better than the other 4,

Comprende?

This might make a single shred of sense if the "Access Bowl" didn't just start THIS YEAR.

My God, man.
Positives will certainly outweigh any negatives if NIU goes to the access bowl. The only potential negative would of course be if NIU lost big, still better on paper though that a MAC team went over all others, and we cash the big check.

NIU seems to be re-solidifying at this point, bring on the self-ordained "big boys".
