There is a persistent rumor floating around Memphis that Aresco has Memphis penciled in for the Miami Beach Bowl. I can't see any logic in that. UCF or ECU would clearly bring larger crowds. Memphis would bring at least 15,000 to Birmingham. Makes no sense to me.
I think he wants this to be our Champions Bowl.
UCF is going there to play BYU again. Who knows and as a Memphis be happy and whatever bowl we play and colors we wear.
1k fans to Miami. At least 10k fans to Bham. As for UCF, at least 15k to Miami. 2-3k to Bham.

I think that's the long term plan---but that is not currently the case. The tie-in for the next 5 years is a rotating mid-to-lower level G5 opponent. The current payout is a mystery. As we speak, the game has THE ABSOLUTE WORST time slot of any new or existing post season bowl. The Miami Bowl has a great deal of work to do before it can be held up as a signature post season destination for the AAC champion.

They aren't going to let UCF play BYU again. You are close to the program. You should already know why Memphis is being pushed to Miami.

I don't like it, GA. Not one bit. But I'm hearing our administration wants Miami. Nike blue Tigers shirts and Nike blue seats at Marlins Park. Ugh.

The only thing I can think of is that's who BYU officials would like to face. BYU has no bowl tie in 2017. Perhaps we are attempting to land a 2017 Miami Bowl commitment from BYU.
Well I'm sure if the players have any say they'd much prefer Miami to Birmingham. Birmingham is the worst.

No way would UCF bring 15k to see BYU again.

Game is 2pm on a Monday when very few people have off work. UCF won't bring 15k for a game at that time to see a team we already beat this year and nobody will be watching on TV.

UCF will be in the St Pete Bowl barring any very strange circumstances.

This is what it really is about. The players are what the Miami Bowl is for.
The league owns the Miami Beach Bowl is in its best interest to make it succeed and grow. It could eventually become the crown jewel. It's not a huge stadium so it could easily sell out and I think as it grows it will switch date and get better opponents.

I think that's Aresco's goal

B'ham should be our landing spot. Miami makes no sense, IMO.

Does knowing a couple players count as "close to the program"?

This bowl likely won't be in existence in 2017. It has all the makings of an empty stadium and abysmal TV ratings no matter who the opponent is. It's a ridiculous venue for a minor bowl game.

That is, unless BYU joins and we get a PAC12 tie in like we want.
