This can be a very good thing for B5 inclusion down the road. However, I suspect the elite eight / final four days in hoops may be done for awhile.

I love both equally, but certainly wouldn't mind football stealing the thunder for the next several years. The potential benefit of fielding a top 25 football team over the next several years could single-handedly change the fortunes for this university forever.

To me it's not an either/or situation - the money is being poured into both.

The big donors paying for the coaches' salaries are prepared to pay the buyouts they agreed to in order to maintain a certain level of performance. I think this will be the last year for JP if we only get as far as we have the past six years.....or do worse.

We paid off Tommy & Porter for years at a clip while paying Fuente - they certainly won't let basketball slide into complete irrelevance because they don't want to cough it up.
We can be both.

This is year 6. We're rebuilding from consecutive one win runs in the NCAA tournament.

The roster has ZERO experienced guards on it.

JP was hired when no one else would take the job. He hasn't been terrible but he hasn't been great either.

The facilities, the salary, the attendance are all Top 20.

I don't understand why the team isn't much better.

hope you are right. I know we need football to be better to have a shot at a better league, but I just enjoy the sport of college basketball more than college football.
We NEED to be a football school first and foremost. We need the opposite of what we had during the cal years. Money being pumped into the football program in spite of the basketball program. Maybe next expansion round, if it happens again, we won't get let behind because everyone knows the inmates are running the assylum. Kinda like this board....

If you had a football team with 4 returning starters playing an ole miss team that went to a major bowl game last year, would you expect to play them close?!! So for everyone to talk the doom and gloom about basketball is kind of pathetic in my mind.

Had we not lost to CBU as well last week, this line of thinking MIGHT have flown with some....the problem is bigger than "we're inexperienced & they are veterans."
