WMU Gymnastics signs four... but look closely at the bottom of the second picture and you'll see the top half of a "Row the Boat" poster at her table. Interesting that it's being embraced across other WMU sports, and even with high school seniors signing NLI's for gymanstics.

I wouldn't use that photo as evidence. That was likely something that the staff put together at her high school to show support for her decision... RTB is plastered all over everything WMU these days, and it was probably an easy screen grab/print. Doesn't indicate directly that the WMU gymnastics coaches/program are embracing it.

I didn't see it in any of the other pictures... unless the gymnastics staff is picking favorites already? 05-stirthepot

Besides, it's kind of contradictory to say they aren't embracing it if you're also saying they're pulling this stuff together for her.

Either way, I found it interesting and thought it was worth sharing.

Those pictures were taken at her high school... I am saying that the actual coaching staff AT WMU didn't put that together... therefore... hard to draw a direct relation to anyone AT WMU embracing RTB.
Oh, gotcha... now I see what you're saying.
They would have to pay PJ royalties if they used it.

That will be true if/when he leaves.

I'd prefer they didn't use it at all. 01-wingedeagle

Ditto.
It's such a nice, touching, personal family story. I think it ONLY should be used for football! 03-cloud9

Have you noticed that recently he dropped the "family story" when explaining where he came up with it? It seemed a little interesting.

I cannot confirm nor deny that I noticed such a change. 05-nono
I get that it's working as a motivator with the football team, but keep it internal, it has nothing to do with our mascot or traditions... and I feel it cheapens the family story where it came from.
Agree 03-yes
Can't remember which college it is, but I saw on some sports tv channel recently that some other institution's football team uses "Shake the Stick" as their motivational saying. I'd rather Row the Boat any day.
There are a lot of kids around Kzoo wearing a "Burn the Boat" tee shirt as well. Something about taking the journey to a new destination and then burning the boat so you can never go back to the old ways. Plainwell?
Cortez right?

Let them wear it. We'll burn them. Set them on fire. Thru the stream of gasoline. I can't sleep -- it's ON.

Yes. Veracruz, 1519. He scuttled a fleet of 11 ships to prevent his men from retreating.
