Chasse Conque Appointed Senior Director of Development for UAMS Medical Center

LITTLE ROCK — Chasse Conque has been appointed senior director of development for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Medical Center.

Conque joined UAMS in February 2011 as the director of development for the College of Medicine. In 2012 he was part of the College of Medicine’s best fundraising year in six years helping raise more than $6 million. He has worked closely with the college’s Board of Visitors as well as UAMS physicians and researchers to help raise funds in all areas – clinical, research and education.

“Working under Renie Rule, the UAMS College of Medicine’s executive director of development, Chasse has been a key figure in the college’s development efforts which have raised $15 million over the last three years,” said Lance Burchett, UAMS vice chancellor for institutional advancement.

He is replacing Sue Williamson, who is retiring after a 30-year career at UAMS.

Prior to coming to UAMS, Conque spent five years at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) where he was the director of development for athletics. While there he started SpectacUALR, the largest ongoing fundraising event for the university. Conque was named to the “Arkansas Business 20 in their 20’s” list in 2011.

He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Central Arkansas and a Master of Business Administration from UALR.

Conque will continue to work with Rule and College of Medicine Dean G. Richard Smith, M.D., as well as UAMS Medical Center CEO Roxane Townsend, M.D, and Brigitte Grant, associate vice chancellor for development, to identify philanthropic opportunities for the medical center and College of Medicine.

UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Professions and Public Health; a graduate school; a hospital; a statewide network of regional centers; and seven institutes: the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, the Psychiatric Research Institute, the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging and the Translational Research Institute. It is the only adult Level 1 trauma center in the state. UAMS has more than 2,800 students and 790 medical residents. It is the state’s largest public employer with more than 10,000 employees, including about 1,000 physicians and other professionals who provide care to patients at UAMS, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the VA Medical Center and UAMS regional centers throughout the state. Very impressive young man. My only concern is would he be willing to make changes in our athletic programs to move us to a higher level? Or would he be too close to the current coaches to make an objective decision? I don't know. And I'm surprised he applied for the job when he has been elevated to his status at UAMS. I do think he is the favorite to get the job. If given the job, he'll grow in the administrative end, and obviously is a terrific fund raiser, which we desperately need. I would be very comfortable with his hiring, but I also like Broussard's resume, and wouldn't count him out.

I typically have had interactions with most of the staff at UALR, but for whatever reason I don't recall having met Chasse. I have heard good things about him and the fact that he already knows the Little Rock community, and has raised money here, should be a big plus. He must be incredibly sharp if he was moved to the head development job at UAMS, a world class institution.
He called on me to renew my season tickets, and if I recall, actually came by to visit with me. He's a very sharp, nice looking young man, with a nice demeanor. That alone wouldn't be enough to hire him, but his resume includes some pretty impressive fund raising items. If I recall, he also played football for his father, Clint Conque. Strangely enough, he told me he was a lineman in football and was a great deal heavier then he was when I met him. He obviously had lost a lot of weight at one time because he looked more like a wide receiver or defensive back, then a lineman. In any event, he comes from an athletic background, so that's also a plus.
This would be an outstanding hire.

Since you obviously have some inside information on this, probably having worked with him, your opinion carries a lot of weight.04-cheers
Chase was the director of development for ualr athletics for a short period of time. Peterson ran him off as he did all the development personnel. If you haven't noticed that position is open again. It has been a revolving door. Chase has thrived since leaving athletics. Yes conque is relatively young, 29 or 30, but so is Mark Zuckerberg. conque graduated uca and got his masters at ualr. He is solid. Money is tight and we need a great fundraiser who can lead.
Good points.
Development job has been filled, got Sheena Howell back, another outstanding hire!
So they're starting to return to the fold after Chris is gone. Interesting.

I was sad to lose Leah, but was thrilled to hear Sheena was coming back.
Where did Leah go? I hate to lose here also. Great young lady.
She still works at UALR in another dept. She is making more money and is still a Tip-In club member
