"During a committee meeting before the Board vote, the Board asked UAB for a review of its classroom authentication, which is university-wide and not just with the new building for the business school," Jack said. "They need to hear more about how the classrooms will be used by other colleges."

What the heck is classroom authentication?

Translation of the bolded: "Even though this is coming from your School of Business budget, we want to hear how much space will be made available in your new building for science courses."
Or another translation - Sit down & know your place.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of us having our own building? Why not just have business classes strewn out across the other other buildings on campus then? The more I read the more I think they are going to eventually devalue my degree. What in the world is happening to our university?
I bet they dont ask similar questions about all those Frat and Sorority houses the are upgrading in T-town. Like " Ok folks, we want to know how many of the 'regular' students you plan to rush this fall?
This is just another instance where Dr. Watts could clarify everything with a quick statement. It's called leadership
I don't recall anything ever being questioned coming from that campus to the west although I may have my green & gold colored glasses on & can't see it clearly.

It is a study to see if how the space is currently used or will be used in new buildings. Includes areas such as whether you need three large lecture spaces or ten seminar rooms. how much time the classroom will be used during the usual lecture hours etc,. All new buildings were required to have one. The medical school found a famous doctor who had a two hundred student lecture hall reserved exclusively for his once a week ten person seminar.

A school may fund raise usually part (or even all) of a cost of the building but the schools budget does not pay for operating it. However if you want to be paranoid - the presidents discretionary fund often makes up the difference

but odds are he won't, because he has testicular omission syndrome.
I liked the line where it said that approval would be easier come February because the Board would be meeting in Birmingham and they could tour the campus themselves, etc etc. Why can't they come to UAB campus on a day other than when a meeting is here? It's their damn job!!

Ah, uabbean, you're no fun. We need conspiracy theory not rational explanations. 05-nono
I was hoping the explanation was that it was too hideous for words and needed to be redesigned. 05-stirthepot
Ha. Can't lie. That design left much to be desired.
