Okay, after scores of posts I need a 'reset' or 'reboot' for this week long period.

I happened to notice that Steve Bell really has a sweet article which pretty much encapsulates a lot of ground for 2015, 2016, and the past.

BTW, Lacey James (UDM commit from Detroit) is back on the market.

http://www.bankhoops.com/index.php?optio...&Itemid=67

Anyone wish to come up with their 'top 5' MI prospects whom you would, realistically, try to sign?

Mike Edwards and Lacey James would be my top two picks (I'm not including Dugan who I suspect will go higher than the MAC or stay home and play at WMU - like 15 miles away from home).

I'd love to have Lamonta Stone Jr. but 5' 7" PG doesn't really fit the Murphy 'long and lean' (like Bond or Michael Carter-Williams) players.
BTW, anyone reading the bit on Mike Edwards might realize why it is harder and harder for mid majors to 'steal' players who are blooming their senior year.

With all of the AAU ball in spring and summer and those 'showcase' events where high school players are, er, showcased, it is hard for a player to go unnoticed by the big boys. Those showcase events might have say D-I, D-II, NAIA, JUCO, etc. talent. It is unlikely that many MAC prospects have gone unnoticed.

In the 1990s, Mike Edwards would have ended up in the MAC. Today, he is being recruited by Iowa. Ditto the PG from Lansing Sexton who a few years ago committed to us and then flipped to Iowa.

Blame the 12 month h.s. basketball routine and the Internet. The classic about the effect of the Internet: A h.s. football player gets offered by ONE SEC school and all of a sudden he has a dozen offers. Information travels fast and there is the 'herd' mentality. If he is good enough to be offered by Alabama, he is good enough for the other SEC schools.

True sleepers are pretty uncommon these days which might be why transfers are 'easier picks'.

It is getting harder and harder for MAC teams to recruit the type of players who were stars in the 1990s.
Then a lot of guys go to big schools after promises of playing time and end up not seeing the light of day, hence the ridiculous amounts of transfers lately. Anthony Clemmons is still my favorite example. If he stays true to his commitment here, he likely starts from day one (and we likely don't get Mike Talley). He's going into his senior year at Iowa, and is still a rotational player at best. When guys hold out for that one BCS offer, it likely won't end well.
Hopefully Michael Niziolek, from MLive, will have something soon, even if EMU doesn't have a press release soon (EMU doesn't 'dribble' out signing announcements, one and then another and then another).

I understand that he will be working on a season preview for both men and women's team and will have contact with both staffs.

I'd hope we'll hear something (even that no signings are imminent is news, not good news, but it is certainly news).
If anyone doubts why MAC recruiting keeps gets tougher and tougher, read this paragraph from Steve Bell (it is linked in my first post of this thread).

How many recruiting battles are we going to win vs. Iowa (insert comment about Clemmons here). These are the type of recruits which EMU (and other MAC teams) need:

"Iowa touring Washtenaw County (dated: October 21)
Apparently an annual winter trip to Ann Arbor isn't enough for Iowa assistant coach Andrew Francis. The Hawkeyes are always looking for another sleeper like Aaron White or Southfield-Lathrup's own Devyn Marble, now of the Orlando Magic. Francis was in Michigan today, Tuesday, and saw a couple of juniors, 6-7 Kyle Hayes of Ypsilanti Arbor Prep and 6-7 Ty Groce of Ypsilanti Lincoln. Groce really intrigues as a top 10 overall prospect in the state for 2016, from a top 10 Class A team in 2015. He has the skill, length and bounce, just needs to get that fire. A bit East up 94 in Wayne County, Iowa also checked out Westland John Glenn senior Michael Edwards. No senior has improved more over the last six months, and when that comes in the form of a sturdy but mobile 6-10 frame the intrigue will grow. "

Saw a comment by Bell that Duke took a look at Dugan. OMG.
ANY JC'S ON THE RECRUITING LIST? PROBABLY ARE BUT WE'LL NEVER KNOW!

MUMS THE WORD , VERY LITTLE RECRUITING INFO AVAILABLE AND IT IS LOI WEE FOR THE EARLY PERIOD. LAST YEAR WE SIGNED ONE EARLY, THE KID FROM CANTON THAT APPEARS TO BE A PROJECT AND REDSHIRT CANDIDATE THIS COMING SEASON.
BTW, I just noticed that Seth Dugan has been offered and has visited Purdue which means...
we won't see him in the MAC...
This article by Steve Bell says a lot:

Steve Bell's comments:

7. Eastern Michigan: With no verbal commitments, EMU completes the fall 0'fer for Washtenaw County. But unlike U-M, Eastern has five spots to fill, which is why there's not a tie for sixth. Rob Murphy's staff either can't or doesn't want to recruit in-state high schoolers, and that trend continues.

When U of D had James a commit you said you'd never heard of him and asked who he was, guess you went out and got educated.

Dennis, Owens Community in Toledo is currently ranked 8th in JUCO Div II. I'd watch Shaakir Lindsey and John Murry from that team both players were invited to the JUCO Jamboree earlier this summer. I like Kenny Jones from that team as well. EMU should be familiar as they scouted Gill and offered him last year from the same team. Gill ended up at Ball State.

It says it's November. Murphy has never signed anyone this early. If we don't have any recruits by March/April, then by all means freak out. But it's still a bit early...hence the term "early signing period".

The perception is out there I've said it once and I'll say it again EMU is non factor in Michigan boy's basketball off the radar etc. I hope Murphy and staff will change this perception.

The record shows that Murphy knows what he is doing. Despite how some may feel about the recruiting of transfers, you can't overlook the fact that Bond, Alvano, Lee, Price, and Nobles give this program solid corner pieces for the next three to four years.

Relax.

For comparison sake, can you put together a list of kids from Michigan who are setting the MAC on fire at Michigan MAC schools?

I meant high school players and I forgot about Nobles. And I'm quite relaxed. I can't speak for others though.

Top guy covering Michigan recruiting. Do you think Steve Bell knows the first thing about Tim Bond or Ethan Alvano? He can say whatever he wants, but high school basketball is played outside the state of Michigan too.

As KPJ mentioned, are any of these local recruits really setting the MAC (or Horizon) world on fire? Since Murphy took over a program that was in the gutter, he's won 52 games. In that same span, UofD has won 55 (including their NCAA tournament team), OU has won 49, and CMU has won a paltry 32. Both UofD and Oakland are trending in the wrong direction, and CMU is only trending upward because you can't get much worse than they were last year. I'll trust the guy that wins games until he gives me a reason not to.

I have Chris Fowler and Connor Tava. That's pretty much it.

I think folks will be surprised in 30 hours that our non-MI HIGH SCHOOL recruits are a LOT better then most of the MI recruits that a few of our recruiting fans salivate over.

Alvano and Bond will not sit on the bench and get sore behinds from lack of PT this year.

It all begins tomorrow...
