I know that isn't profound or anything, but the guy is quick in traffic and makes plays. If anybody else had tried to field that punt bouncing around on the field I would have thought, WTF, get away from it. But Chad handled it with the nonchalance of a shortstop, and I trust him on those punt returns. I wonder how he'd do on kickoffs?
Yeah this guy is going to be a star.
I think he would be OK, but I think they look for track star (straight ahead) speed for kick offs. More guys that are impressive in the 40. Punt returns are more quick, shifty, sure handed guys. Beebe is pretty fast, and is really quick. I am not sure he has the straight ahead speed of someone like TLL or Duece. Plus, they may try to limit guys exposure to injury. I think both KO and Punt Returns are really dangerous.

True, but our kickoff returns have been really mediocre except for that one by Huff. There's been too much traffic, no clear lanes, so speed by itself doesn't work. Beebe might be able to work through some of that and get us better field position if not TDs. If the reason is injury concerns, that makes sense.
Beebe has done nothing to make anyone think he is going to be a star! He averages probably less than 10 yds a punt return and has 10-20 catches on the year.
I thought the one handed punt return was a dumb move. Looked cool but you can't take risks like that. That could have easily been a bad turnover to turn the momentum of the game.
All those years at don beebe's speed camp have paid off!

Anyone else seeing #82 returning punts make you think next year could be another 2003? Sheldon was a key player that year. I think an experienced Beebe could be a key next year. Getting way ahead of myself considering there is a lot of football to be played this year, but I am kind of excited about the possibilities next year. If Hare is better, or Root is the savior we all hope he is, I think next year could be special. Maybe I should put the Angry Orchards down on a Tuesday. 04-cheers

Not a star but he's better at punt returns than anybody we've had since Sheldon. Not that that's saying a lot. But a lot of it is the blocking, which really hasn't been there. And it's rare to average more than 10 yards a punt return.

Does this mean we will be seeing Beebe wearing a Huskie baseball uniform next spring?

Not a "star", but a really good player. Offensively they really limit him to screens and short outs. It doesn't help when those screens are usually slightly off by Hare, throwing the rhythm and timing off. Beebe's constantly spinning around or reaching down to catch what should be an easy, in stride pass. But once he does catch it, he runs really well in traffic.

I can't tell if NIU has a terrible punt return team or they're just facing bad punters who can't get hang and distance, but Beebe is forced to fair catch 4/5 balls it seems. Rare is the return where he has 5+ yards of open space in front of him.
There are hardly any returns on punts in college football. Most punters suck and only punt it 35-40 yards, so there's no room for returns.

Beebe catches everything and has the ability to make something happen on the rare occasions he gets a chance. I don't think he's ever going to be a star, but he's already a really useful player.

He reminds me a lot of what Perez Ashford was. Really good hands, not the speediest or the biggest, but just able to get the job done when you need him to.
Yeah, that's a good comparison. I think he has a little more speed than Ashford. If Fleck and Sheldon had a baby, it would be Beebe. He's not as good as either of those two were (at least not yet), but he's a mix of both.

NIU is going to have skill position players out the ass next year.

The QBs are back (ehhhh) and you add in Root. The offense should be pretty strong again next year.

Ha, don't post that on the WMU board, you'll end up in a lawsuit.

He's a lot of fun to watch and he's got a pair, which you need for punt returns.
To be fair to Perez, I think at this stage of their career perez was slightly ahead of Beebe. Then he had injury issues and Martel really came on. Perez also took a punt back for a TD vs Ohio as a freshman I believe.

Beebe has lots of potential and is a good role player. I look forward to seeing him develop more when they don't have daron. Not that brown has a crap ton of catches at 44 but it's more than everyone else by quite a bit. When they don't have a stud I think you see golladay, ducee, juwan and chad all have like 25-40 catches.

Perez was only injured his senior year, IIRC, and Martel was always regarded as the better receiver between the two of them. Ashford's sophomore year (2010), I'm pretty sure he was around the 3rd or 4th WR at best behind Clark, Napalm, and Martel, maybe even behind Cox, but every once in a while Perez would pop up and make a big catch when you needed one. You also never had to worry about punt returns when he was back there because I don't think he ever dropped a ball.

Perez was one of the best players that you didn't hear about that much.
