EMU is one of a number of MAC teams not playing any exhibition games and going for a weak opponent(s) instead.

The Convo should be rocking with all of the school kids present.

I hope none of the newcomers will be shocked. The crowds will get older starting next Monday (Oakland).
Not the least bit interesting all for showing off. At least let's hope so because if it's the least bit close (40 points or less) the season is over.

So if we win by 39, cancel the season. Got it.

I wish the Oakland game was on a saturday. Would've liked to get down to that one. We always have good games with OU, and it'll be a nice early season test for us. If anyone thinks WE lost a lot, try replacing the production of Travis Bader and Duke Mondy. Oakland has bigger question marks than we do.

Just hundreds and hundred and hundreds of school children beside those who are interested in their first look at EMU 14/15.
Maybe one notch above an intra squad scrimmage. There's a lot of those type games this year.

Indeed.

Tim Weiser (fmr. AD) told me on the court at Bowen the night we clobbered nationally ranked Wisconsin (12/94 or '95, I think, like it is almost 20 years ago) that we would never see another B1G team at Bowen.

If you get burned once, you don't come back a second time (to get burned again, or at least risk getting burned).

Only a fool would bring his team to an arena which is a 'pit' and play against Boykins, Dial, Wilson, Tolbert, etc.

The only time a B1G team has subsequently come to EMU was UofM (Steve Fisher made a promise to bring UofM to dedicate the new arena), and Purdue and MSU as part of FOOTBALL deals where a game in Ypsi was part of the deals. Cal came as a 'favor' by Ben Braun to Ramsey.

UMass last year was part of a home and home schedule which AGAIN was part of a football deal (UMass promised basketball home and home games as part of their admittance to MAC FB).

Now the best we can do is home and home vs. Oakland.
Exactly! Not to mention beating Purdue here two years ago. It's a lose-lose for low end BCS/high end mid major teams to play us at the Convo. If they win, who cares? If they lose, they just lost to a MAC school with a quarter of their arena filled. This makes scheduling tough. We would have to go on the road a ton, like we did in Murphy's first season, and he made it clear last year he wasn't gonna do that again. I wish he could've done a little better than four non-D1 games (still miffed we haven't scheduled UofD in a while), but it will help to give our guys time to gel before that gruesome road trip in December, and then MAC play.

Well stated!!!

The MAC teams, including EMU, need to work on scheduling alliances with other conferences so we can 'guarantee' say 4 games each season, two at home and two on the road.

E.g., home and home with several Horizon teams (as we are now doing with Oakland).

Would be nice to do same with say Missouri Valley.
Other than seeing some of the new guys for the first time, in my opinion this game is meaningless. I won't care much if we beat them by 50 or 15. The real indicator is going to be on the 17th.

They've suffered some season-ending injuries and a dismissal from the team already. I have a feeling this will be a rough year for Oakland. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to see us up against them in the Convo, but I do not expect as competitive of a game as last year.

OU had trouble with D-II Ferris State in their opening exhibition game, going down 15 in the first half and squeaking out a 7 point win.
Yep, and the only beat St. Xavier by 15 in their final exhibition game. If that happened here, superfan would have written off the season already.

Still some talent there, though. I'm sure Corey Petros is happy that Riley is gone. DaShonte gave him trouble in both previous games. Hopefully our new trio of big men can do the same.
i'll be there on friday. while i agree with you all that we won't know much from the game, it's still exciting to get the season started, and we can at least get some insight into the role each player will have on this team.

Who else is going to the game?

But they recruit Michigan well... 03-rotfl

Folks need to remember the purpose of a college basketball program is to win college basketball games. 03-idea
CMU also had trouble with their D-II exhibition game. Saginaw Valley almost left Mt. Pleasant with the W, leading by 1 with 4:58 left in the game. Keno still has his work cut out for him up there.

St. Francis (IL) beat Rochester College by 17 and lost to E. IL. by 31.
They list our game as an exhibition. Mistake?

No. The E. IL game was also an exhibition game.

I don't believe they are NCAA (any division) and those NCAA games are exhibition games for them. I assume they are NAIA.

Kind of weird when you think of it.

EDIT: They are NAIA.
