This is why you take great care before giving battle while in the enemy's country.

Or you could just go off half-cocked and repeat Gettysburg.

Has anyone considered the possibility that this stunt with its ill planning and ill timing is hurting us as much if not more than any enemy of the program could? 03-idea

No. Getting out in front of it now is better than letting it hit the fan in January. Recruiting was going to be affected anyway. At least now we can try to make something happen before signing day.

If you say so... It doesn't take much effort to put myself in the shoes of someone on the outside looking in though.

Looking in... and seeing a clusterf***
It looks horrible right now, but the football foundation ran with this now because they felt that a lot more than recruiting was going to be affected over the next few months if they sat back and let it happen.
It was given careful thought. If we don't fight now at the end of the season there would be nothing left to fight for.

Doing this now is the only chance to stop it however slim that may be. What we need to do is make the big money alabama supporters that do business in Birmingham realize this will eventually hurt them financially. If they start to complain it will get their attention.
I'm with AnimeBlazer on this one. As far as I can tell this is just a rumor and it is hurting recruiting. Hopefully, it will get the students and fans to the game in bulk tommorrow, so some good may yet come of it. But, I hope we can put an end to this episode and get back to building a winning program and going to a Bowl Game.

So you would sit around and do nothing while "the enemy" could be dismantling our athletic program? At least this has brought it all into the light. At least people are paying attention to what is going on. Is it enough to make a difference? By ourselves, no. But, we now know we have the backing of the community, the county and state leaders.

Could we lose recruits? Maybe. Could we lose Coach Clark after the season? Maybe. You say this is our fault for making noise. It didn't need to get to this point. I say the administration could have been out in front of this letting people know exactly what is going on so there is no speculation. I say the administration could have put out something more than a non-committal POS statement yesterday saying that they were trying to improve athletics, not shut it down.

People are concerned and voicing their opinions. This wasn't something that BlazerTalk folks got together and decided to just do something for no reason. This all started with the business community that supports UAB questioning what was going on and not getting positive (or any) feedback. We just stepped up and are trying to do our bit to help.

If you don't want to help, that's your choice. Did you think Coach Clark wasn't already aware that we have no one scheduled past 2016 and his contract runs out in 2016? I didn't know that and I am alarmed to find out. Is this a distraction to the team? Maybe. Or maybe Coach Clark is good enough to keep them focused on the task at hand. Maybe this spurs the team on even harder knowing they could be playing for their existence.

Jimbo Fisher, Pres Garrison, the OCS, UAH Hockey . . . None of it SHOULD have happened. Everyone at the time all thought it WOULDN'T happen. But, it did. I'm glad people are just sitting around waiting to see what happens. People want to know what is going on. People want to make sure that no one is working to shut us down. The more people paying attention to this, it lessens the chance for underhanded, behind-the-scenes garbage. Do we have enough watching to stop it? Who knows. But, I do know that 100 voices are better than 10. 1000 voices are better than 100. I want as many people watching this voicing their opinion as I can get. If someone is trying to shut us down, I want to make it as hard as possible for them to do so.

Sitting on the sidelines is the same thing as saying you don't care. But, again, that's your right.
It's real as it gets.

That's the thing I am an Alumnus and a fan of UAB football, but from the outside looking in I see cause for concern but not cause for panic. I say concern because obvioulsy Mr Filler and other former football players are very concerned, so if they are concerned I am concerned as well. But, without inside knowledge about what is going on I am a little lost about what I could do or should do. My buddy who is a member of the UAB board of Junior Trustees tells me as far as he knows there is nothing to these rumors, but of course he is not connected to the Athletics Department.
All Watts had to do is say we are not planning on shutting down football, in addition we are working on facilities and an extension. He didn't.......

That's the reasoning behind the letters, emails, phone calls. First, to show support. Let them know that there are more than the "12 fans" that we are always accused of having. Secondly, we are asking for disclosure. What is going on? Why are there no games past 2016? Why does Coach have a 3 year contract? What exactly is the purpose of the report? Improvements? Shut downs? I've taken it this whole time as a fact finding mission. Watts response revealed nothing and caused more issues because of it. Now, it sounds like he is hiding something instead of just coming out saying what it is they are doing.

What is the UAB Board of Junior Trustees?

"The teams will play in Birmingham on Sept. 19 in the 2015 season, followed by a Sept. 10 game in Mobile in 2016."

Well we did sign a contract for a home and home with South Alabama.

Second, Bill Clark had three more years left to get his pension from the state of Alabama. That could explain the three year contract because all indications tell me Coach Clark is a man of his word. So that may (a big maybe) explain the three year contract.

Not having Clark under a contract as long as normal isn't a rumor. Not scheduling OOC games isn't a rumor. Not getting an extension in front of Clark isn't a rumor, because he has certainly proved he deserved one.

Hell, they gave Callaway an extension!

So yeah, put it out of your head, and when Bill Clark leaves after the season you'll figure out there might have been something to it... when it's too late to do anything about it, because if he leaves we're sunk. What decent coach in his right mind would take the job?

You talk as someone who would accept a conclusion that we stop playing football at UAB.

I am telling you that this does not compute. If some son of a ***** said he was cancelling football at UAB I would express utter surprise and tell him over my dead body.

I don't beg for scraps from fools. They haven't played the complete fool card yet, but if they do they will hear from me and it wont be to ask their further sweet opinion. It will be to tell them what's what.

How do you suppose someone can permanently kill a program that has thousands and thousands of people supporting it?

You can undermine it. Sure. And the powers that be surely have been at that for years. But destroy it utterly? Only a lack of support can ultimately destroy it.

If I had to personally fund club football at UAB I would.

And yes, Saturday I'll be "sitting on the sidelines" watching the game as per usual.
