Texas State released their schedule today and it didn't disappoint, we play 5 teams that went to the NCAA tourny last season with highlight home games against Texas, Baylor, Sam Houston State, Houston, UTSA and last season's Sun Belt Conference Champion UL Lafayette. Some notable in-state away games for alum spread around the state include Rice, Texas A&M, Texas, and Baylor.

We are coming for you Cajuns 05-stirthepot
We lost a lot from a very good team but have some key pieces returning. Will be tested early, still a few unknowns but brought a good mix of juco and young talent. We have some guys back that were reserved last year that most likely start on a lot of teams in the country. I can talk you this, from what I'm hearing about the fall, our hitters like the new ball... A lot.
If we can get the Sunday starter spot ironed out...we'll be very good very quickly. Return almost everyone. Texas State will have to get past us if they plan on finishing anything better than 2nd.
OOC we have UTSA, stony brook, alabama, lsu, houston, jackson state.
I'd have to say the Cajuns would probably be picked somewhere in the middle in the preseason predictions and rightfully so. We have a lot of experience and attitude that graduated or was drafted. It helps us early season to have Greg Milhorn back this year after expecting he'd be drafted earlier in the year. He never fully recovered from the injury (not arm related) early in the year so his draft stock fell. Being realistic, we have 19 freshmen and 5 sophomores our of a 43 player fall ball roster. We'll have a number of JUCO's or underclassmen that will have to contribute and that usually takes a little time. The team we had last year had great success, but they took their lumps when they were younger.

Ours hasn't been released, but I know we have a 3 game set at Kansas State along with a home set against Missouri State, and a home and home with Ole Miss.
Speak of the devil. Here's Southern's schedule: http://www.gseagles.com/schedule.aspx?path=baseball

I hope the New ball makes look better the small ball or rocket launchers is a few years ago. There has got to be a middle ground.

This should be it, the balls will still carry and not die in the outfield but the bats still aren't as live so less chance of killing a pitcher, which was the initial intent. I know this, we led the country in home runs for 2 years, with the old ball.

I asked our pitching coach about the ball change and he said it makes it harder to throw a straight fastball. He made a comment that anyone with natural movement on their fastball could be extra deadly now.

With our park we will never be high in home runs but it's got to be better than what it has been. Even better gap power would be welcome.

Yeah it should, the flat seams instead of raised should also give the pitchers slightly less movement as well which should help the avg's also.

Your best chance at improving the power at our park is hoping that we add softball in a couple years as expected and give them the baseball field, while the baseball team gets a brand new field facing a different direction.

No doubt.
We get strong south winds blowing in as well, we don't have big guys and they really don't swing for the fence. It really is a byproduct of the system, I know it sounds cliche, but I believe it....proof is in the numbers I guess.
I am really looking forward to Sun Belt baseball this year. I am looking for a year in which the Belt moves up the RPI rankings and at least 3 teams go to regionals.

I hope so. In '08 or '09 GS hit 14 HR in a game. Last year the team hit 61 total.

But if you can navigate it, that RPI should be looking pretty good for a regional.
I see that we are not having a tourney to start the year this year. That's different. Also, we're playing UT 3 times! What was Ty thinking? (or drinking).
I see UH back (only a single game though) on the schedule but still no TTech, again. Are keeping a series, of sorts, with UTSA with 3 weeknight games.
