With everyone having either 3 or 4 games left here is what remains as the Belt goes for 3 (or more) bowl eligible teams:

ELIGIBLE (sort of):
Georgia Southern (7-2) - @TxState, @Navy, ULM

ON THE BRINK:
Cajuns (5-3) - @NMSU, @ULM, AppState, @Troy
stAte (5-3) - USA, AppState, @TxState, NMSU
Texas State (5-3) - GaSouthern, @S. Alabama, stAte, @GaState
South Alabama (5-3) - @stAte, TxState, @S. Carolina, Navy

SLIM CHANCE:
Appalachian State (3-5) - ULM, @stAte, @Cajuns, Idaho
ULM - (3-5) - @AppState, Cajuns, @NMSU, @GaSouthern

ELIMINATED:
NMSU, Troy, Idaho, GaState
It would be nice to have 5 teams bowl eligible, and one team that is bowl eligible transition.

Will suck because odds are good us and Georgia Southern will be sitting at home, but still...

Half the teams at .500 or better? Not too shabby.

I saw that yesterday and it brought a smile to my face. I just wish we would have done better OOC.
Appalachian State is not bowl eligible either.
There is an interesting question about how the scenarios work out. Cajuns are pretty much locked in to the NO bowl assuming they don't have an epic collapse. Texas State is probably in the Weakest spot, because of the two teams they are battling with for the last two guaranteed bowl slots, one (USA) is from the backyard of the two bowls choosing, and the second (AState) has been bowling 3 straight years and proven their fans will travel.

If you are the Bobcats, your best scenario is figuring out how to win at least 7 games, and making sure one of those wins comes at South Alabama, which would force the Jags to beat AState or Navy (assuming they lose at SC) to get to 6-6. You would then likely cheer for them to beat Navy (Who must beat Two of GS, Army, and USA to get eligible) , which opens up the Armed Forces Bowl to take Texas State.

Arkansas State likely needs two wins to lock in a bowl. Thankfully for Red Wolves Fans, who should be very concerned about the struggling run defense, three of the last four are at home.

Massey says there will be 80 bowl eligible teams this year, meaning 4 would sit at home. However getting there involves several results that are not sure things (They have North Carolina winning out, and Western Kentucky winning three of four) Neither are certain to happen. As a league, we really should be cheering for our old friends in Bowling Green to lose at least two more because that would likely open up the Independence Bowl to take an SBC team. (ACC and SEC likely short bowl, AAC is not going to have enough to cover their backup, if WKU loses, CUSA doesn't cover their backup as well)
I'd like to see the Cajuns play in the Indy Bowl......LaTech for 2 quarters then Georgia Southern for 2. Two birds, one stone.

as long as we get the 2nd half. lol
TXST has a shot at Armed Forces (though AF can fill in) or Heart of Dallas if spots are open. 7 wins is really needed. I think Georgia St is a win and then need to sneak one from USA, Georgia Southern, and stAte.

I really don't want to sit out yet again.

The way I've always looked at it is that in the SBC you need 7 wins rather than 6. While 7-5 teams have left out before (See WKU last year) we're fighting the MAC and CUSA generally for the at large spots, and we can beat those teams out for spots provided we have decent records because of ticket sales. For instance, Texas State should be far more attractive to HOD or AFB than a MAC school would because you guys would sell a lot more tickets. But at 6-6, you're really pushing it trying to get that spot.

I know some Cajun fans who wouldn't bat an eye if you beat Georgia Southern this week, and some AState fans who would love it if you beat USA.

We plan to do both.

Of course, we planned on not crapping the bed against the Cajuns, and see how that worked out?

Some?
I know it's meaningless (sort of) but the Sagarin predictor currently has 75 teams becoming eligible. There are 76 slots. That would be incredible news for Georgia Southern.
Honestly, geo south wins out, continues to show strong fan support, etc. I really could see them getting it waived, would be a very historic event but I don't understand the point of the 1st year in fbs transition, considering the new team is probably playing with a disadvantage, last years playoff ineligibility makes sense but the bowl one, no sense as far as I'm concerned

Probably be some statement along the lines of im saying that because apparently app and geo south fans are in bed together. I don't think anyone wants to see a goat-gnat baby though, so I would hope at this point they realize we don't homer that much for each other

Didn't I read somewhere (maybe on here) that the rule was passed as a reaction to someone having taken advantage of FBS-FCS transfer rules to more or less load up on transfers from FBS schools before making the move?

Based on what precedence?
Interesting Question Arkstfan posed on our board earlier:

If CUSA needs to fill its backup and offers up La Tech, how does Shreveport respond? Could the I bowl be frustrated enough with Tech for ignoring them two years ago that they decide to force Tech into the CUSA bowl pool, take a weaker team and then go court the Cajuns to fill its open slot for ticket sales reasons?

I Bowl is a huge get for anyone this year. Its on ABC, which means millions more viewers potentially.
