Aside from the 2nd quarter, we dominated the game. Congratulations to the coaches and players. We are setting up ourselves for a re-match with Marshall and Mr. Cato. Driphus gets better every game. Hope Covington and Parks are not out long. GEAUX Owls!
Still need La Tech to drop a game
Any astute observations from folks who got to watch? I just listened. Rice dominated very early and the defense dominated the whole 2nd half. No turnovers against the #1 takeaway team in the nation is pretty impressive. And once again, lots of Rice defenders in the opposing team's backfield.
We lost time of possession.

No, we need them to drop another in addition

Only if you think we are predestined to lose at Marshall.

Predestined? No. Likely? Yes. Would I feel more comfortable? Yes

If we both win out, or both drop a game ,or if we win out and they drop one, the final game is for the West berth in the conference Championship. Only us dropping one more the rest of the way than them takes that meaning away.

LaTech dropping a game just gives us room to lose one ourselves without losing the shot at the CC. So, yes, LT losing would make us all more comfortable. But it is not necessary. We can take care of this ourselves.
As for the FIU game, I was glad to see us continue our second half dominance. Driphus continues to impress. I noticed several first down passes, so I guess that has been put to rest. We covered again, which means we are playing better that the great unwashed public expects. Good, I don't like them picking against us anyway.
To anyone who saw it, how bad did Covington's injury look?

He was in a lot of pain, and could not put, even try to put, any weight on it. Looked bad to me.

Dang.
Also, to those who are assuming a loss to Marshall, clearly some might argue that their record is a bit misleading: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football...ge-gameday

...That said, I'm not sure we should feel about this, given that we're on their schedule...
Defense in second half was stifling, after a spotty 2nd quarter.

Well done.

Offense took what they gave them. The quick strikes were what they wanted to make us do in the wind, and they were reasonably effective.

Time of possession only REALLY matters if that is your game... if you run a bend, don't break style of defense... everything in front of you... force them to run the long field. That isn't really our game. We do what FIU tried to do and force them to beat us over the top. Sometimes they do. Of course there are always time you want to hurry and times you want to go slow... but this is not Hatfield's offense and defense.

Dang.

I walked off the field with him. He was not putting any weight on the knee at all, but was in good spiririts and not in obvious pain. "First time I've ever had to get the hang of these crutches" he said.

Frankly, I'm not optimistic. But in my heart of hearts, am thinking at least we should get him back for another year. What the hell, he could pick up a PhD or two along the way...
Watching a bit of the La Tech/WKU game. Not sure if WKU is that bad or if La Tech is that good but La Tech sure putting a beat down on them. No margin of error for us after ODU debacle. La Tech still has their mulligan and no Marshall.

For us, good W today on the road against a team with a bye week to prepare for us. One of the things that has really improved over past couple years is road play against C-USA opponents. Since Memphis loss a few years ago, Owls are different team away from HRS. Props to both the staff and players for changing that culture. Will need every ounce of it for the next road game.
