Sink em!

Even new coach Chuck Martin is getting in on the fun:

Quote:Martin steals the show

New Miami RedHawks football coach Chuck Martin had a couple of the best quotables on the day, one in which he poked a little fun at Western Michigan’s “Row the Boat” slogan.

“We have no mantra,” Martin said. “We are anti-gimmicks. We are anti-sayings. We are anti-things on the walls. We are definitely the antithesis of that. I don’t even know what “Row the Boat” means. You hear it a lot over there, but I’d need an explanation. Unless I’m coaching the crew team, I’m not using that.”

I think he said that during the MAC media day. I doubt you'd hear him say it now after WMU's success so far this year.

Yeah, you're right. Darn. Well, I hope Fleck uses this, still. Was posted just recently on the main MAC board as a new thread. Didn't notice the date in the URL. :)
The thread on the main board was posted in July. But I bumped it up since it's WMU-Miami week.

Two things we can count on. There will not be a massive crowd at Yeager even if the weather is good, which it is not supposed to be. I've watched several Miami games on ESPN3 this year and while the claim a respectable attendance in the box score, the stands look like EMU reincarnated.

Second, Miami will bring a one dimensional offense to the table. It's CMU/Lefevour era, minus any kind of running game, Oline, or Antoinio Brown type receiver. Hendrix is good, but he's throwing to receivers that are akin to Kendrick Roberts and Timmy Keith (no offense to either). Serviceable, but not game breakers.

I see a similar game plan to last week. Start with the short run after the catch passing game. Use that to open up the run, get their D up on the line, and exploit them with Davis downfield.

Worst case scenario it's a close high scoring affair, which I believe we'd still win because we can control the 4th quarter with ball possession.

Best case scenario, the secondary plays lock down D, doesn't give up the big plays and allows the front line to pressure the QB. If that happens, we're talking a lopsided affair.

I just think we're a match up nightmare for even a genius coach like Martin.

I've called one WMU win this year, the Murray game. I've picked against us in all the others, so I may regret picking us to win Saturday.

Miami is one-dimensional.

Jarvion Franklin alone has more rushing yards than their entire roster of RB's, and by a lot.

Hendrix and Frazier shouldn't be under-estimated.

I'm sure Chuck Martin wants to win this game BADLY.

This would be quite a shocking loss for us at this point if we didn't go in there and just take care of business. They've definitely played better at home than away. But that's relative.

I like us to win 42-28.
I could see Miami putting 28 on the board, but their pattern is to fall behind big early, and make it look close late. Typically, when teams get big leads they sit on the lead and let the D put it away. I don't think that works in our case.

I think we can get an early lead and then methodically build on it late.

Oh crap! You have calculated it all out, and after giving it your best most thoughtful analysis you have us winning? I was really looking forward to watching this game. I hate it when we play poorly and lose. You could have at least kept you mouth shut so the rest of us could have maintained some optimism for a win.

I hate it when we play poorly and win, too (see UMass game last year) -- although it is a relief for a few hours directly afterward.
Good teams win even when they don't play their best.

I think they put up a decent amount of points on us because it's another match-up that potentially exposes our secondary, again.

True. My true disappointment comes when they play poorly, not just lacking their best. Little bubbles of it when it's part of the game, altogether when it's more or less the whole thing. And obviously the opposite feeling when it goes in the opposite direction. I had a split personality from one half of the Ball State game to the other.

It's been said many times. Anyone can beat anyone in the MAC. With the exception of Kent State, I'm not comfortable that WMU is going to beat anyone for different reasons. The reason this week? Andrew Hendrix. Miami has talented receivers, and a talented QB. If WMU doesn't get to the QB, could be a long day defensively.

Kent blitzed the chit out of them. He had little time to throw. Most of his offense came off from the middle of the field opening up on blitzes and the QB taking off.

Call me overly optimistic, I think this team is worse than OU. QB is better, but the Oline is a siv, and against a good QB they can't cover anyone (see UMass).

Braster, Adams, Turner, and McKinney are developing, and are starting to get consistent pressure on QBs. Turners hit on Knapke was the best hit I've seen from a WMU TE in ages. Ash is getting pressure, and Ishmail has come off the delayed blitz to get pressure as well.

I think that's why the secondary has looked better since the BSU game.
