"We're out there prostituting these guys," Blakeney said. "We're making them miss class, the body has to catch up and so does the academic work."
Of course, it's all for television. "ESPNU or 1 or 3. Whatever," Blakeney said.
"Isn't that something?" Blakeney said of the short rest. "Ain't that great?"
Time for him to start speaking his mind on his way out.

He is right though.
Two things. He played an in-state game within an easy drive of home, and the Trojans get an extra day to rest up compared to their upcoming opponent.

Odd timing to make that statement, "retirement" pending or not.
Your coach is a crybaby.

Back to back short weeks. Yall only have 1 short week...

And mobile is a 3 hour drive from Troy. The players had to stay the night in mobile.
I'm sure the players on both teams just hate having to play a game on national television. At this point of the season the contact at practices should be minimal anyways, so getting rested up from a Friday night game should be no big deal. But good for him on speaking his mind on his way out the door.
There is a market for football on different nights of the week. Somebody has to fill that need. We and the MAC are the ones that need tv appearances badly. So that somebody is us. If I were Blakeney, I would want to play my games inside a dark room too.

I am well aware of how far it is. I guess it's just being used to seeing our guys do 4+ hour bus trips in the SoCon post-game like it's no big deal.

The other point I wasn't aware of, so that does put a little different spin on things.
I feel your pain but we had two dang Tuesday night games if the conference wants to make money we have to play these games and you get to show case your team in front of a national audience. If we had played the last two games on Saturday no one from the conference would have seen up play because of there own games. I do understand his concern but its not about the short week. If we were in Troy's predicament I wouldn't want to play Southern on national t.v. either.

He always try 14-15 game seasons with 20 less scholarship players in FCS I suppose.
What money? Those games are mainly for exposure/publicity.
I have a lot of respect for Blakeney, but seriously, WTF?

The vast majority of DI sports teams probably play more weekday games than most any DI football team.
He's tired and frustrated. As my dad would have said, he needs a nap.

A long one, like retirement.
One or two nights out of a year. I think we can manage. That said, I don't like week night games.

Agreed! TV exposure helps pay the bills. If LB was winning he wouldnt be bitchin
Good thing he doesn't coach a sport that misses a lot of class time, relatively speaking . . .
Can we at least count on one of these from Blakeney?

Ain't that the truth.

His argument would have carried more weight if it wasn't after a loss.

As it stands, it's like he's searching for an excuse.
