I would have to say no...
No, but I feel their pain.
Yes
Rey Dempsey's final games and The Larry Porter era were our low points. And they were SMU bad.
As a team yes. But not physically, no. SMU looked tiny and unathletic. Thier 2 most imposing players seemed to be the running backs Line and Seeker.
When we lost 47-3 to Arkansas State when Porter was at the helm, I knew we were going to be in deep trouble for awhile. But luckily, things have change.

But SMU is just horrible. I feel sorry for their next head coach.

Been around many "decades".

The porter era was the worse, by far.

IMHO
Yes, under Porter...
No. Worse, much worse.
During Porter's second season, I left almost every home game at halftime. Left one game after the 1st quarter, we were equally as bad. Many blowout losses.

Dude, we were way worst than SMU under Porter. Today, SMU put 10 points on the board on us. No way, we would have put up 10 under Porter. I sat out there at the LB with Porter games and half time we were always 3 to 4 touchdowns behind at half time.
Larry Porter....enough said

We were in a couple of games with porter at least...

49-3 at half to ASU?

Yep, that humiliating debacle in Jonesboro almost made me give up.

Almost.

But I realized then that beatdown was the nail in Porter's coaching coffin. The truth is Larry just wasn't ready, and several assistants sandbagged his regime.

Comparing Porter to Fuente is like comparing Mr. Rogers to Conan the Barbarian.
SMU is giving up the most points in the NCAA and scoring the least in the NCAA...Doesn't get any worst than that.

If their team today played a Porter team of a few seasons ago, SMU would win.

We had at least one win by the end of each season under Porter. SMU may go winless.

Might be true but for comparison...

We lost 23-22 to a 5-6 Marshall team

SMU lost 43-6 to a 2-6 North Texas
You guys must be young. You should have been here in the mid 80's for Rey Dempsey. He took a team poised to bust out that was 6-4-1 when Dockery died and managed to make them unwatchable, run off good players, and sent things into a death spiral that you have never seen here. Porter's teams were not near as bad as what Dempsey turned the program into.
