New AutoNation Cure Bowl Announced
by Brian Wilmer

ESPN's Brett McMurphy joined a number of sources in announcing earlier today that the 40th postseason bowl game debuting next year would be called the AutoNation Cure Bowl.

The game, slated to match members of the American Athletic and Sun Belt Conferences, will field its inaugural contest December 19, 2015. The Orlando Citrus Bowl will host the contest.

The Thursday announcement stated that part of the proceeds from the game would be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Numerous conference and city dignitaries joined in a press conference earlier Thursday outside the Citrus Bowl to unveil the game and its mission.

Megan Dowdy, president of the Orlando Sports Foundation, perfectly summed up the goal of the game.

"This is not just a football game. Together, we can tackle breast cancer."

Heard reps from the Cure Bowl were at the GS vs App game. IF we have a good year next year it might be our 1st bowl.

I've heard something similar to this, but it wasn't from a solid insider source. I would imagine we would travel well to Orlando in our first bowl game ever.
The Citrus Bowl is undergoing a massive renovation project that is due to be completed by the end of the year. It will be first class and Central FL is delightful in mid December weather wise.

This is a win for the SB.
That's great news.

Yes it is. Is this one of only two Orlando bowls? The Citrus Bowl stayed out of the playoffs so they could keep hosting multiples in the stadium. Awesome for the SBC to get one of them.
Is this not old news?
I had not heard much concrete about it but today received an e-mail with story stating the date of the first game - Saturday, Dec. 19.

This might be our best bowl.

That date is horrible news. I return from a cruise that day that I scheduled because it came back before all bowl games usually start :(

As an Orlando resident...my fingers are crossed all year.

Tell the little lady the trip is off. She'll understand.

Seriously considering rescheduling it to two weeks earlier. Sure, there's no chance we'll make a bowl. Sure, there's only a 25% chance it'd be that one if we did.

I would never forgive myself for missing our first bowl if it was, though.
Wasn't this going to be a SBC-CUSA bowl when it was originally announced?

What seeds will the 2 opponents be? Is this like the 4th best goes up against the 4th best in each conference?

Unless your cruise is in 2015, I don't think you have much to worry about. This bowl game starts next year.

Ballin'
Orlando would be a great destination for which ever team gets it. Conference Championships are great for the schools but bowl games are for the fans especially if its a great location like New Orleans or Orlando because both cities offer what I'm looking for. (IMO only)
