I don't know what on earth is going on in Mobile, but that was awful.

I think how poorly the ms state game was handled turned off a lot of fans. May have done irreparable damage. It was pretty bad.

How was it handled, exactly?

Ladd Stadium cannot handle 25,000+ fans on a hot day (there were 38,000 there). Only two entrances on each sideline. 45 minute lines to get beer inside stadium. 30 minute lines to use restrooms. Concessions ran out of water in 2nd quarter. People were passing out left and right. Concourses were jammed packed. It was an absolute mess. and embarrassment for the city and University. Fortunately the Senior Bowl and GoDaddy Bowl are played in January.

That being said, Mobilians are event focused (Mardi Gras, GoDaddy Bowl, Senior Bowl Bay Fest, Shrimp Fest, Azalea Trail run, etc.) and will support them very well. Unfortunately once the newness wears off of our city's sports teams, people don't turn out. Our minor league baseball team, which has been ranked the #1 minor league baseball team in the country year after year and are regulars in the Southern League championship average less than a 1,000 per game. When they first came they averaged 5-6,000 a game. Our ECHL hockey team had the same problem. They eventually left for Gwinnett, GA.

The Miss State game was bad, but I don't think a lot of those people were coming back anyway. It was an event game so you had a lot of interested folks come out. But it certainly didn't help things.
TXST had 18,509 on Tuesday night. Not great but I'll take it for a Tuesday.

Fair points but we're averaging lower this year than normal, throwing out the sell-out MSU game. It could be just normal Mobile lowering of support but I think the MSU game turned off people who were border-line fans and attended once in awhile. 13k for homecoming shows something pathologic imo.

Sweaty donkey balls come to mind.

Idaho seats 16K, 15K is an outstanding attendance for them

I don't know what on earth is going on in Mobile, but that was awful.

That's tickets sold. What I saw on ESPN 3 was quite a few empty seats.

Ladd Peebles is not built to accommodate large crowds. The first year we went to the Go Daddy Bowl, concessions was a nightmare. They were running out of stuff in the 1st quarter.

USA badly needs an on campus stadium.
I know Tuesday games have historically been difficult on attendance. The Cajuns have a couple of promotions going for tomorrows game against Arkansas State that I hope gets us up to at least 25,000. Anything more would be exceptional from past games.

13,186 what? Toes?

Certainly not teeth. 05-stirthepot

I kid. I kid.
Just to show how NMSU graduates scatter after graduation.

Graduates of all the institutions in the SBC like many other across the country do leave to where there are jobs. I would love to get back to LC on a permanent bases.
GA St. @ App tickets are going fast, well except for the GA St. allotment. They returned nearly 500 tickets. Really, you guys can't bring 1,000 fans to a game within five hours of your school?

If the high stays in the 60's and no rain we could see a good crowd. That would be the best weather for the season.

They barely have a couple thousand fans for home games and the campus is a few blocks from the dome. Driving north into the mountains is a tall task for those concrete jungle people in ATL.

Hopefully the weather is like last years Ga Southern game. Cold, cold, and a little snowy.

Embarrassing to say the least. Someone at the game said that South was trying to make Georgia State feel at home.03-lmfao

WRONG. South Alabama doesn't pad their attendance numbers at all; they ONLY count scanned tickets for official attendance; not tickets sold (unlike *most* other programs).

The illusion often seen by TV viewers of there being nobody in the stands is due to the fact all cameras typically are behind the USA team bench facing the student and visitor section which is normally barren compared to the west side bleachers.

Personally, I thought there were about 18k in attendance but was obviously wrong about that. Still, 13k is completely unacceptable and yep -- we need a state of the art on-campus stadium sooner than later.

This is correct. USA only reports actual attendance which sticks in my craw, personally. The West side of the stadium had way more people. The East side only had 2 sections of students and the 15 GSU fans that showed up.
