64. Arkansas State (4-2)
Buzz: The Red Wolves have been to the GoDaddy.com Bowl in each of the past three seasons. They appear bowl-bound again, but you'll have to excuse them if they're not all that keen on returning to Mobile, Ala., for a fourth consecutive year.

76. Georgia Southern (5-2)
Buzz: Moving to FBS from the FCS ranks? That's no sweat, say the Eagles, whose losses have come to ACC schools Georgia Tech and North Carolina State by a combined five points.

88. Louisiana-Lafayette (3-3)
Buzz: ULL has had three consecutive nine-win seasons. If the Ragin' Cajuns can beat Arkansas State next Tuesday, they have a great shot at increasing that streak to four.

90. Louisiana-Monroe (3-3)
Buzz: The Warhawks already have lost to two SEC teams (Kentucky and LSU, by a combined 79-14) and still have a game remaining against Texas A&M.

93. Texas State (3-3)
Buzz: The Bobcats have averaged 49 points per game in their three wins -- but just 22 in their three losses.

103. South Alabama (3-2)
Buzz: The Jaguars' three wins have come over teams with a combined one victory.

120. Troy (1-4)
Buzz: Coach Larry Blakeney already has announced he is retiring at the end of the season. He deserves a solid send-off, so here's hoping the Trojans can win three or four more games.

123. New Mexico State (2-5)
Buzz: The Aggies play at Idaho on Saturday. In a Sun Belt Conference game. Yep, a team from New Mexico traveling to Moscow, Idaho, for a conference game in a league featuring the words "Sun Belt."
College Football Playoff FAQs

124. Idaho (0-6)
Buzz: The Vandals have lost 13 in a row, which is the nation's longest current losing streak. Still, we don't think they are the worst team in the nation -- or even the Sun Belt Conference.

125. Georgia State (1-5)
Buzz: The Panthers play their home games in the Georgia Dome, usually in front of a group of people that would fit comfortably inside the Atlanta Falcons' huddle on Sundays.

127. Appalachian State (1-5)
Buzz: The Mountaineers went from being a big fish in a small pond (FCS ranks) to drowning in the ocean (FBS ranks).
oh snap.... some of those comments on the lower teams is harsh, but funny. but overall, I can't argue with those rankings too much.
5 years ago App was a big fish... now even their goats are turning their noses up at them.

As for GA ST, he could have saved some ink and summed it up in 2 words... dumpster fire.

Get your shots in now stink.
With all due respect to Arkansas St, Georgia Southern is not 12 spots worse than them. I don't know who's better but if they are in the 60s, we deserve to be up there as well.

What's the highest ranked team that Ga. Southern has defeated this year?

What is the worst loss Ark St has had? Wins and losses factor in.

South Alabama on the road by 22 is our best win. We can only beat who's placed in front of us. We have more wins and our losses are better. I wish we did play Arkansas St this year so we could decide it on the field rather than playing the transitive property game.

So, the highest ranked team that Ga. Southern has defeated is #103 South Alabama.

As a comparison, the highest ranked team that stAte has defeated is #56 Utah St.

Quite a disparity in actual accomplishment.

What exactly does "losses are better" even mean? I never have understood the "our loss is better" argument. That kind of discussion is for losers. At the end of the day, a loss is a loss. Moral victories don't count in the standings.

I think we all do. It will happen soon enough. Should make for a good game.

Many computers factor in the margin of victory in the wins and losses.

Losing by 1 is better than losing by 40 in terms of evaluating the strength of the team. Seems pretty logical and straightforward to me.
Using Sagarin...

stAte has lost to #22 Tennessee and #47 Miami, Fl.

stAte has defeated #55 Utah St, #118 Motana St, #140 University of Louisiana at Monroe and #196 Georgia St.

Ga Southern has lost to #51 Georgia Tech and #79 NC State.

Ga Southern has defeated #103 S. Alabama, #168 Appalachian St, #192 New Mexico St. and #250 Savannah St.

There's quite a bit of difference in the ranking of opponents lost to and opponents defeated.

If you use ESPN FPI the Utah St and USA wins are pretty close. Plus Ga Southern does not have the bad losses like Ark St. Sagarin does not factor in margin of victory because it was part of the BCS poll and they didn't want to incentivize teams to run up the score. That is why Ga Southern is ranked ahead of Ark St in the ESPN FPI.

Give it up. You don't deserve to be up there.

Our worse loss was 21 points to Miami. Lots of factors went in to it actually being a 21 point difference, one huge factor was we shot ourselves in the foot repeatedly. Just an off day.

You haven't played nearly the competition we have this season. Period.

So if Colorado St beats Utah St and USA beats GaSt, it is likely that USA will pass Utah St in most of the polls. Based on what I've been hearing, Ark St fans would then switch their ranking since Ga Southern would have the best win. Lol

As far as I'm concerned, y'all can rank yourselves anywhere you want as long as we beat the Cajuns Tuesday night.
Utah State lost.

On the road to a good team, who was favored in the game.

Taking into consideration yesterdays game Sagarin ratings this morning have A-State as the top SBC team at#57 and GaSo 2nd at #77.

After them the highest rated SBC team is UL at #102.

Not saying A-State will win out at all because they are very young and have had a lot of injuries, but it is obvious to anyone who has watched them and the other SBC teams, including GaSo, they they are far and away the most talented team in the SBC. Not even close.

If they do not beat themselves with penalties and turnovers, which young teams do from time to time, they should not lose to any SBC team this year, and the talent gap between them and the rest of the SBC will grow even bigger next year.

Grasping for straws, and that is just a bs poll, and their will be no creditable rankings that will have GaSo ahead of A-State............ at least this week.
