I like it for recognition purposes, but I put no stock in it. They outline at the bottom how that "poll" is calculated.

Still it's kinda cool...
yeah, pretty much purely a stats ranking, but hey, being listed on a usatoday football poll, while also being ranked on their fan favorite poll on the right, this is definitely good press for us. And we also got listed yesterday on a usatoday sports page because of our uniforms for last week.

100% agree. This means nothing, but it is very, very cool.

Jeez, I'm over trying to sound modest at this point we are kicking ass this year and exceeding EVERYONE'S expectations including my own. Everything else this year for me is a bonus, IF we win the conference my head might explode. This is the FBS not the SuckCon enjoy the hell out of every accomplishment no matter how small they are much much harder to come by. I guarantee most of our conference mates would affirm.

#10 in the fan poll....03-lmfao Vote!!!, if nothing else it will piss off and irritat thuga and the nerd herd.
It is good for the conference.

Thank you, It took a fan of another school to actually just enjoy it....stop with this self loathing crap. We are losing our entire O-line next year it may be rough enjoy this stuff when you can. GaState would have t-shirts made of that screen shot at this point.

We hoped that the old hands would do well OOC and that the newbies would not embarrass. The old hands have not been spectacular and Georgia Southern has taken up a little of that slack.

Not a good year OOC for sure but I think it is more of who we played. It will be up and down, since the OOC is vastly different every year. CUSA basically beat our bottom teams. I wish we had a G5 home and home instead of two money games from here on out. If all of us did that our OOC would probably improve tremendously. I think all our bottom teams are going to improve some I think a lot.

calm down there skippy. The guy posted a link, and all of our replies were saying how it is useless, but cool. Let's get through this year before we talk next year.

Not useless, it does mean our team is performing well overall or we would not make it in, it is based on data not opinion.

One question...

Is strength of schedule factored into these rankings?

No?

Then, it's pretty worthless, except for it's entertainment value.

It says it rewards teams for a great SOS, but it isn't one of the main factors. I would have to assume it is mostly stat ranking, as you have GS with the number 1 rushing attack, top 10 in total yardage per game, 13th for ppg, 33rd for points against. That's why we got on there.

From the link:

The NCAA.com Power Rankings are based solely on team statistics. The formula includes current stats for both offense and defense, taking into account teams’ ability to produce positive results on both ends of the field. A strength-of-schedule factor is also included to reward teams that play more BCS opponents, and gives a disadvantage to teams that play a high number of non-BCS and FCS teams. The same SOS factor carries across the whole season for a team, meaning the weekly shift in ranking is accounted for completely by that week’s statistics.

This is what it says at the bottom of the poll...

"The NCAA.com Power Rankings are based solely on team statistics. The formula includes current stats for both offense and defense, taking into account teams’ ability to produce positive results on both ends of the field."

That's all it says. I didn't see this part at either of the links provided. ...

I'm not saying it's not there, but I haven't been able to find it.

Perhaps, Petor706 can provide a link that states what he claimed it says, and then we will know for sure. 07-coffee3

This is a screen grab I just took. It's at the bottom of the first link posted. All I did was copy it when I posted it earlier.

That's weird.

When I go to the link, all I get is the first two sentences.

That is weird. I'm on an iPhone so maybe it's only on the mobile site? I'm not really sure why it would be different though.

I'll go check it on my iPhone.
