People are having full fledge meltdowns right now in Bobcat Country. Lots of WTFs? Anger, Dissappointment, and flat out embarrassment. Went to the game and pre warmup I was shocked at the sheer size of Louisiana players. Can't get over how depleted and helpless our lines looked in comparison to theirs. Last night was pretty much a solid punch to the optimism meter.

That's exactly how I feel as a TROY fan right now! Our players don't even LOOK the part of Div I ballrs, much less have natural ability.
TROYs starting middle linebacker looks like he hasn't picked up a weight in YEARS!!
I know they're playn as hard as they can, but it's not enough.
Boy if size and looking the part mattered, A-State better cancel the rest of their season. They do look very athletic, especially when they are moving, but I would say their size would not impress most Division II's.
Fortunately for A-State it does not matter as much if you compensate by having a big advantage in speed, athleticism, talent,and conditioning.
It was a national embarrassment how bad our coaching was. Fran doesn't care. Period.
I for one am not a fan of hiring washed-out P5 coaches and never have been. They're just not going to put the same effort they put into previous jobs because they probably have no intention of coaching at a major college program again. See Georgia State with Bill Curry for an example of that ending in disaster.
Really if size and looks mattered then GS would lose most their games. Although GS is very athletic and very handsome, they are probably one of the smallest overall teams in the SB. OL and DL is pretty stout but all others are smaller faster guys.
The bad thing is... the game went how I expected it to.
The Cajuns D-line dominated ours, and we didn't adjust. We kept trying to run up the middle.
What I didn't expect was for our QB to get so jittery and flustered. He looked absolutely out of his mind lost.
Defense played well in the first half (allowed 14 points, 7 of which came on a single busted play), but it's tough when they are right back in the game after each series.

What I don't understand is how you guys nearly knocked off Illinois at their place. I listened to the game and you were in it from start to finish. Surely their players are the size of the Cajun lineup.

That and their defensive line wasn't as stout as y'all's. They had one big ol' boy that we could double team and man up on the rest. Couldn't do that with you guys.
So we kept running up the gut to where we were getting stuffed.
You could tell Tyler was pretty pissed last night after he threw the TD to Gunter. Gunter celebrates, Jones walks straight to sideline and shows zero emotion.
It baffles me to this day how most football fans don't understand the concept of matchups. Some teams matchup better against others. Obviously we match up very well against texas state looking at both games. We don't matchup well with georgia state by looking at both games. Size does matter against certain teams and schemes, it matters less against others. If any of you know guys at your school that play defense, ask them if it matters that our RB is 6'2 and weighs 240. Last year our size alone helped us beat wku and ASU on the road. Size matters on the lines but your size has to be able to move, you can't just recruit 325lbs statues of blob.

I'm convinced that the Texas State smash mouth style of offense doesn't fit what Fran can recruit. A G5 school in Teaxas is always going to struggle recruiting quality big bruising OL's. Virtually every HS in Texas runs the spread. Theres plenty of spread/7-on-7 talent in Texas to load up the Texas State roster. That's what the Bobcats need to be running. You need to tailor your offense to fit the talent pool you recruit from.

Did y'all bring Bryan Harsin in as special offensive consultant. He tried to beat the Cajuns between tackles last year because he was much smarter than Hugh Freeze and Gus Malzahn.
Your boards should have melted down after the Navy game. That was worse than last night. I think you have enough talent to compete as is. I don't think you have the coaching to compete. That's across the board, lots of fundamental mistakes.

Troy's MLB is 240 LBS. That's mid to large size for a MLB.
We do have some small starting DE's at 235 and 230. DT is 300 which isn't all that small. NT is 270. Pretty common sizes for anyone but LSU, Alabama, Florida, etc. My major concern the last four years is the 5'8" CBs we've had going against 6'4" players like Arkansas State's Allen Muse. Shorties are only good if they are extremely athletic and extremely logical in how much contact they make. Usually those shorties are 4 and 5 star players. 2 star guys at 5'8" won't get the job done. I feel we've turned the corner in that regard. Are sizes are bigger and we've recruited better talent. As such, we're not getting beat deep nearly as much. Much better coverage, much better at defending the deep ball.
Our OL is rather thick this year. We are way "fatter" than previous years.
I'd suspect we'll look like the bigger team this weekend against a paltry App State. We may even win.

If A-State approached the game next Tuesday the way Harsin did last year(aand the Memphis games just to add insult to injury for A-State fans) , I would almost guarantee you UL would win. Also noted he fired himself as OC.
