We're the early block again for the TV coverage.
Ugh.
maybe we'll get a cool front to blow in and make things a little fan friendlier on the east side, where it gets hotter'n hell when the sun is out......no wonder the students don't show up (seriously - its miserable over there on a hot day).
Quote:In recognition of the Owl's three-game winning streak, Rice Athletics is offering a limited time ticket special. Any fan who purchases two tickets to the North Texas game before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, will receive a third ticket at no additional charge. I don't see this on the DirectTV listings...
Man I hate that 11am start. Not only is it miserable in the sun and probably has some sort of negative effect on the players... but I have to completely overhaul my flights and hotel reservations.
We played okay Saturday with an early start and we also played well against Marshall last year with an early start. But I do think in general we do better in the night games - and the crowds are better too. I know I'll have to miss the game because of the early start.

I'm not sure if the weather will be a huge issue although it's too early to tell for sure. But as of today, the long range forecast for the next couple of weeks keeps it pretty cool by October standards in Houston.

Ditto
Student attendance should be better at 11 AM than if it was held at 6 or 7 because the 25th is the night of NOD. Student attendance was better for ODU than it was for Hawai'i also.

For Pete's Sake, it's not Death Valley.

Nope. It's not. But it's a lot worse than it would be at 6 pm.
I'll be there regardless of the time.
But I reserve the right to complain about the 11 am start.

Sure that's your right, but complaining about a day game in late October seems pretty lame.
I won't be able to see the game :( I'll be on an airplane headed to KC! I do expect a big win however....GO OWLS!!

Thanks, George. I really appreciate it.
It should be a good crowd. North Texas should win at home this weekend against USM. It'll be a big game. We'll be there.
As a former player, I can always remember those 11AM kicks. They stink. As a college student trying to do homework after practice, you are conditioned to stay-up late and combined with the excitement of game following day, you usually don't sleep much on Friday night. The ability to cat nap and watch college football games on Saturday makes it easier for a Sat night kick.

For the 11AM game, you get a wake-up call at 6AM for pre-game meal at 7AM (always eat four hours before kick) then you go out and the home HRS crowd(s) were always bad in pre-game as you don't usually play the Texas or A&M's, etc. at that 11AM time. It was the SMU's, TCU's, etc. (now ODU, NT, etc.) that did not travel well then. Most of the time (like ODU) you have just come from playing at night in front of a big crowd and the combo of the heat, body clock ready for a nap, lack of energy, nobody in stands at 10AM warm-ups etc. just makes it very difficult to have same intensity as the night road games. Now this is true for both sides and I do think one of the reasons that Marshall was flat last year.

Am assuming that since this lack of energy/intensity from 11AM kick was a reason given by players after ODU game, that they won't let that happen again and boys should be ready to play. Not so sure that USM can't take down NT this week. NT struggling big time at QB. If that happens, NT could be in situation of folding the tents for the season..

True. But Clemson has better opponents for its 11:00 a.m. kickoffs.
I hate 11 am home games and it has nothing to do with weather.

Any parent with kids in any kind of athletic activity is likely to have a conflict. I have 3 kids, and if it is not fall ball, it's a cross country meet or a volleyball game.

I have zero chance of making it back from Waco in time for the UNT game when it starts at 11 am. If it were a night game, not a problem.

I don't expect the team to schedule to suit my needs. But 11 am games are a problem for a sub-set of Rice fans.

Obviously, the TV money will be bigger than the gate, but I wonder how much Rice gets for the 11 AM kick-off ?03-idea
Also dampens the pre-game activities a bit. Don't they realize that Owls are nocturnal? On the other hand, the weather currently looks decent. Of course, the evening would likely be even better.
