Full Version: This season could end without a single game between a PAC and SEC school.

Even if it's unlikely, it shouldn't even be possible.
Eh one time fluke. The two conferences might LIKE to play games against eachother but there's no rule that a game MUST happen each season.
Isn't that common unless Tennessee or LSU is playing in the game?
The SEC ducking OOC competition....say it ain't so. Quite a feat to duck a whole conference though.

It's been 23 years since Florida has played a non conference game outside of The Sunshine State. Everything pales in comparison.

Dude, when you play in the SEC West, you don't need an OOC SOS boost.
Arkansas scheduled one of the toughest schedules in the nation this season. I don't understand why people want more from us.

Mashall, but had to duck that game due to ACC move...

What's the SEC Cherry Division's excuse then?
I hate the SEC as much as anybody, and especially the East but it's hard to criticize that division with OOC games with the following P5 games:

Clemson (x2)
FSU
GT
Louisville
Oklahoma

Then you add in the stronger reputation G5 games against teams like:

East Carolina
UCF
Arkansas State
Toledo

Is that really all that bad of an OOC slate? Every team except Vandy plays at least one P5 game. Several of the G5 games are against teams who have finished at or near the top of their respective conferences in the past few years. Sounds about like every other conference to me. Reading some of y'all post you would think the entire division scheduled like Vandy did.

It's about gate revenue and little else. As for the PAC the way to address that issue is with bowl pairings, but they prefer the Big 10. Regular season home and home series with the PAC don't NET quite the same for either schools' home gate because of the diminutive travel crowds. While the SEC can sell out those tickets the PAC can't always do it. For SEC schools the regular season scheduling issue is also a simple one. Our fans would rather see us play a Big 12 or ACC school and turn out better for them(partly because they can drive to the away games) than some PAC school not named U.S.C., Oregon, or Stanford. And, since the chance of getting one of those to play you is remote the issue is what it is. So home & home series against one decent P5 school plus 8 conference games for 9 P5 games means that every other year if you scheduled an extra home & home with another P5 school (like a PAC school) that 6 home games is about all you could count on in a season. The 7th home game generates up to 7 million in revenue for an SEC school. It's as simple as finances and the PAC ducking us for schools that are more profitable for them to play CJ.

As for the Gators and a few other top SEC schools they alternate seasons with 7 home gates and 8 home gates for the same financial reasons. The Gators annually play 8 SEC games and Florida State. Your schedule comes nowhere close to that difficulty and really never has since Schnellenberger started building up the program with tough games. Compared to the SOS of most SEC schools that "pales in comparison".
The quality of OOC opponents is more important than the variety.

The bigger problem is that so far they've only played 7 P5+ND opponents. That's less than the Big 10 (16), Big 12 (10), ACC (9), and PAC (9). On top of that the PAC and Big 12 play 9 conference games, and the ACC still has lots of games against ND on the schedule.

I actually don't have a problem with Arkansas' schedule. Scheduling Texas Tech and NIU is a great OOC schedule. Plus you play the 2 best teams in the SEC East. That's a monster schedule.

However I DO have a problem with the schedule of Mississippi State. At the end of the year, MSU's schedule will be 4 ranked opponents, 3 other quality opponents (LSU, UK, Arkansas), and 5 patsies.

It's a lot easier to have an impressive record if you're counting 5 practices in the win-loss column. Their schedule is significantly easier to navigate than the schedules of Notre Dame or any Big 12 team.
How many Top 10/Top 15 teams do you have to play before your schedule is tough enough?

The idea that a Top 10/Top15 match up doesn't count just because its a conference game is ridiculous.

You are absolutely right. And I would go further and say that Vandy's scheduling is right for Vandy. Why should the SEC look to the West Coast for opponents when there are equally challenging ones in their own time zones? I don't hear many people criticize the PAC for not scheduling games against the SEC.

Auburn played their first ranked ooc road game since 1984 this year. Kansas State outplayed them but they escaped with the win.

Georgia played it's first game outside of the Southeast in forty five years a couple of years ago.

So it is getting better.
College football has always had that problem of how good a team is. A conference can be down play nobody out of conference . So how do you prove who is best an eight team play off.

Florida and Georgia actually have either 6 or 7 home games a year because of the World's Largest Cocktail Party in Jacksonville and every other year on the road at their in-state ACC rival. Both UF and UGA played 6 home games last year because of additional OOC games @ Miami and @ Clemson.
